“In two minds... Maybe style over substance?”
Reviewing the Cortiina was tricky, perhaps as others have found. We stayed in room 520, an "apartment-style" room overlooking the street with a large bathroom and kitchenette.
Firstly, location is brilliant, multilingual staff very good, rooms spotless and stylish with storage fine for short stay, and fantastically a Nespresso machine which I loved. Very little noise from street, less than you'd expect for location. Room service breakfast option cheaper than eating in restaurant and was fine for us.
Downsides - Major one - central heating too hot and couldn't reset it down so ended up opening window to snowy -10C outside periodically. Plus, lots of little things that probably don't matter to business traveller but do for tourists - e.g no map or tourist information in rooms in any language amongst the design magazines and glossy hotel brochures; no instructions for wifi logon (I needed to relog daily) which is very slow; not clear whether room service just for breakfast or other meals; no TV guide except Sky; no info on website if there is hair dryer (of course they do as you'd expect but good to know for packing) but lots about design elements and materials.
I'm not sure average hotel guests want to know what kind of wood and stone their furnishings are made of, but they do want to be comfortable, know how their room amenities work, and know how to get around a new city.
As I said little things but for the price you pay, makes me think emphasis by management has been perhaps been put on style over substance?
So we really enjoyed our stay in Munich, would have no hesitation recommending Cortiina for a business trip, but would try somewhere else nearby next time if returning as a tourist.
