“Great location for travelling to city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for the Christmas Markets in Munich. The location was great. U-Bahn station only 2 minute walk away. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The kitchenette was very handy. There is a fantastic Chinese take away called The Hot Wok, just across the road. Very good value for money and they have an English menu if you require it. The Italian restaurant downstairs in the hotel was lovely, staff very helpful. Please book a table in advance as they are very busy. You pay for WiFi. 5.90 for 1 hour for 1 device! Tip: if you pay 8.90 for the premium internet....its faster and you can use two devices at the same time. The Markets in the centre of Munich (Marienplatz) are beautiful. A member of staff recommended another market/festival at Theresenwiese. We decided to check it out. The U-Bahn station leads directly to the market and it was fantastic. Food from all over the world and places to sit down and enjoy it all. There where 4/5 circus type tents which were huge, heated and full of interesting things to buy and enjoy. If you get tired very easily, the markets in the city centre may not be for you. there are a few cafe's but all very busy. not many seats to sit down outside. We paid 24 euros each and this covered all travel on the U-Bahn and S-Bahn. for 4 days, from the airport and back again. The breakfast in the hotel was delicious. it was 12 euro each so may be expensive but set us up for the day.

Room Tip: If you are getting the WiFi pay for the premium and get to use two devices! Book a table at the Ital...

Having stayed here for 3 weeks over a 2 month period I feel I can comment on this hotel. OK I was on business and the office was a 10 minute walk away so this was good, but I did not find any problem when I wanted to visit the city centre as the underground (which I thought was amazing ) was 50M away and only 10 minutes journey right into Marien Platz.
The hotel is very comfortable with small bar / lounge. Reception staff very pleasant. Lots of tourists using this hotel. Ate a few times in the Italian restaurant (turned into Italian at night from breakfast area) and was very nice. Had a kitchenette tucked into a cupboard in the room but I never used. Can't comment on other costs as WIFI and breakfast were paid for. Had no car so can't comment on parking. In a quiet suburb with a few restaurants nearby.

We landed at Munich airport for the first time, purchased Deutsche Bahn train tickets to cover our stay in the city, and proceeded to the Silberhornstrasse exit from the U2 underground line as the hotel is a short walk from this station. As we had arrived early, the reception staff allowed us to store our suitcases and spend some time in the vicinity until our room was ready. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel room once were had completed admission procedures, especially the hidden kitchenette in the room - which we used to cook some meals later in the week.

The bathroom facilities were excellent, with a super shower (large head).

Our booking included bed and breakfast, and we found the breakfast buffets (both hot and cold) really filling - good preparation for each busy day!

The reception staff were most helpful when we asked questions about activities within Munich.

On our day of departure, we were allowed to store our (heavy) suitcase in their storeroom during the day - without charge.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel as a 'home away from home'.

I stayed in the hotel during October 2013. I stayed in the fourth floor (which was described as the "Executive floor"). The value of the room was over 250 Euros per night for 3 people.

In this price what was not included was
a. the WIFI internet which costs 11 EURO per night
b. the breakfast which costs over 10 EURO per night
c. the parking which costs 13 EURO per night.

That meant that somebody which paid over 250 EUR per night for the room had to pay an extra 35 EURO per night (at least) just to have amenities that most hotels offer for free in this room rate.

The rooms were adequately clean and the staff was kind.

However, I wouldn't recommend this hotel especially regarding its value for money.

Room Tip: Before deciding to go, calculate the price for the extras such as breakfast, internet and parking.

If you are intending a business trip to or visiting a long-lost ageing relative in the Obergiesing district of Munich, then this property may be ideal. But, for a visit to the hustle and bustle of beer-houses and other attractions in this awesome city, it may be a bit of a schlep to travel in and out. No reflection on the brilliant underground travel system on offer, as the hotel is a stone's throw away from the Silberhornstraße U-bahn Station.

For travellers on a shoe-string budget, this is a great hotel as it offers good facilities (such as an efficient laundry room, Wi-Fi, internet kiosk, bar, restaurant and small garden), in a quiet and safe area. Our room had a nice small balcony overlooking the quiet Heimgartenstrasse, small kitchenette, which one can neatly "stick away" in a cupboard, cable TV and a seating area. Being out and about most of the time, sampling as much as humanly possible in and around Munich, we did not make use of the restaurant serving Italian cuisine, Finnish sauna, steam room and gym. Instead of the famous organic breakfasts on offer, Wendy and I opted for various cold meats, cheeses and freshly baked breads (and more, available at a little superette around the corner from the hotel) for enjoyment on the balcony of our room.

The main negative for us was the two single beds pushed together while having requested a proper double room with double bed. On numerous occasions I would find myself falling through two parted beds! Not nice if you're on a romantic European getaway!

Overall, an average accommodation experience for us.

Room Tip: Don't be satisfied with a single bed, especially if you're 6 foot something weighing in at a...

This hotel was overall a good experience. It is located in a somewhat out-of-the way and bland neighbourhood but is very close (an easy walk with luggage) to the U2 train station so access is no problem. The room was comfortable, clean and adequately sized and the hotel overall is a decent, if a little bland, business hotel.

A couple complaints, only one of substance:
• the Internet is not free, and is in fact quite expensive! Normally I like European hotels better than our North American ones because they tend to charge for fewer things; but when I travelled a few years ago I found that Internet tended to be an exception to that. However on our recent trip that this review was written after, I found that in most places I was not charged for Internet any more; this hotel was the one exception.
• The shower seemed to be incapable of holding anything close to a constant temperature, going from freezing to scalding in a second. Not sure if this was just our suite or a problem throughout this hotel.

But again overall a good experience. Just budget five or so Euros a day for Internet when comparing price to other locations.

Minutes from the U bahn - so really convenient to get in to the city centre. Quiet location. Friendly staff. Very clean room. Kitchenette was useful for making hot drinks (and also breakfast) as we did not pay an extra 12 Euro each a day for breakfast! There are a couple of supermarkets within a minute or two of the hotel so can easily make your own in the kitchenette (and there is a fridge too). Got a really good deal to stay here for 4 nights. Nice balcony too!. Only downsides were very flat pillows and expensive wifi - although there is a PC you can use but it is in a awkward location and was being used most of the time we were there! Would definitely recommend!
