The Michelin one-starred Esszimmer restaurant in Coburg, Germany, has given birth to a steaks and seafood bistro, called the Victoria Grill. But it serves much more than just steak and fish. At a recent visit I enjoyed a plate of Fraenkische tapas (five small pieces of local delicacies among others bratwurst, flammkuchen, carpaccio and mousse of smoked fish). It was followed by a piece of venison, cooked to (rosa) perfection and served with fresh cantharel. As I didn't feel like a sweet desert I got a marvellous plate of five cheeses - a bit too much to be honest. The whole accompanied by glasses of the local (Fraenkische) white and red wines. It was a meal worthy of a Feinschmeckerrestaurant. Knowing that the chef of Esszimnmer is also the chef of Victoria Grill explains a lot.
