This market place is exceptionally well preserved, surrounded by interesting shops and restaurants, with the famous Coburg bratwurst available in the center! Extra long, with a very short bun, it is cooked over pine cones - the result is delicious. One bakery offers a marzipan version!
Images of the market place and surrounding area are featured on Advent calendars - an easy and inexpensive souvenir available at 2 nearby bookstores and the town's wonderful Christmas store.
Coburg in general has a friendly, less touristy feel than neighboring Bamburg. The market place seems both ancient and modern. Happily, the entire town was untouched during either World War.
It is beautiful anytime but especially at night, when illuminated. The lighting has won awards and it is easy to see why.
