“Excellent location, just of the edge of the town centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2011

We stayed here in June 2011 , for one night, during a European road trip. The room was clean and spacious. The en-suite bathroom was cramped, but fully functional. There is a large garage in which to put your motorcycle overnight, but don't arrive too late, as there were 5 motorcyclists who were unable to fit their bikes in, all space having been taken by earlier arrivals. The guest house seems very popular amongst travelling motorcyclists, probably due to its town centre location, good value for money, and garage facilities. We would definitely consider staying here if we visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen again

We "reserved" a room with balcony several weeks in advance. We communicated by e-mail. A couple of days prior to arriving and the morning before our afternoon arrival I e-mailed an updated with our expected time of arrival. However, when we arrived, our room had been given to someone else, and another room we were to have had just moments before been given to another couple. Then they had that couple vacate and go to another room and gave us that one. It did not have a balcony as we had reserved. And that didn't matter, the price was the same. We concluded that the "reservation" didn't matter. If you want a room you had better be there early in the day. It was clean enough and the location near the train station cannot be beat. If you can live with the uncertainty of having a room or not, then okay. Otherwise I would recommend going somewhere else.

After traveling through Europe on a business trip and staying at major hotels we found our own perfect place. The Alpenkranz met every need we had for our own personal vacation. We discovered this charming B&B years ago, and have returned there many times. We have recommended the Alpenkranz to family and friends, and each person who has stayed there has thanked us many times for the recommendation.
The rooms are clean and fresh. Most of the rooms have baths, but on the occasions we stayed in a room without a bath the shared bath is large and always clean. The family and staff who run the B&B are warm and friendly, and English is spoken. There is a friendly feeling with the other guest, and I feel this is because of the graciousness of the family who runs the Alpenkranz. The breakfast room is the perfect place to start the day, having a nice selection of breakfast choices and a beautiful view of the garden.
We have based ourselves at the Alpenkranz to tour the surrounding areas, and feel like we are coming home when we get back to the Pension. The Alpenkranz is located near the railroad station, and an easy walk to the downtown areas of both Garmisch and Partenkirchen. I love being in a town surrounded by Alpine peaks; as a guide back to the Pension if I lost my bearings I looked for the Alpspitz (a mountain with a distinctive top) and knew if it was over my left shoulder I was going in the right direction.

I was sure I had reserved a bigger room than the one we had. It had two small beds but it did have it's own bathroom (which was a bigger plus for me, being pregnant, than not being able to sleep in the same bed with my husband). The room was warm, clean and comfortable. it was close to the pedestrian center with shops and restaurants. Breakfast was very good and quite filling.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Gastehaus.
Heidi, the owner, was gracious as possible with extremely clean rooms, and a breakfast that is absolutely wonderful!
View of the Alps from our balcony window was beautiful!
My wife and I would highly recommend staying here!

Gastehaus is situated in centre of Garmisch close to shops and restaurants. Room was quite small and there was no toilete in it. One bathroom per floor, but you have washbasin and towels in your room. Breakfast was ok-continental. We had difficulties with internet, because owners said they do not have a code. After a persuation they manage to get it. Funny. If location and price are important for you you should stay here, but do not expect too much.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2007

We had a comfortable stay at the Gästehaus Alpenkranz, at a very reasonable price. We stayed three nights in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in September 2007, the first in a series of Alpine mountains towns we visited in Germany and Austria. We found this gästehaus after arriving by train, through the helpful staff at the tourist information centre.

The Gästehaus Alpenkranz is the on the Partenkirchen side of town, just off a main street about midway between the train station and the tourist office at the Rathaus (city hall). It's ideally located for anyone who, like us, arrives on the train and doesn't rent a car. The Partnach River runs just behind the house - you can hear it burbling from the balcony, or, I would imagine, with the bedroom window open. However, it was cold and rainy while we were in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, so we had the window shut and the radiator on! It's an older house in a very pleasant neighbourhood; actually, the entire town and area is very beautiful - when we weren't hiking in the mountains above town, we were walking all around the town.

Frau Scheuber-Neff and her family/staff were friendly and helpful. The gästehaus was very clean, and the breakfast buffet was a good start to the day. We were in a double room with WC on the first floor, near the breakfast room. Our room, although not small, was somewhat crowded in terms of lay-out, but certainly adequate for the two of us. We were there mostly only to sleep, and felt the room was very good value for the price, especially with breakfast included.

The room had a comfortable queen-size bed, night-tables on either side, a large-ish cupboard for clothes and "stuff" (but close to one side of the bed, so not ideal for stowing suitcases - and the sliding doors didn't open wide enough for us to be able to put our suitcases inside), a small table and chairs at the foot of the bed, and a small sofa across from that. The sofa had to hold our suitcases as there was no floor space to put them where we would not have been always having to step over them. The doors to the bathroom and to the hallway were quite close to the sofa and both of them opened into the room, as did the balcony door. There was also a stand with a small TV.

As to "facilities", the sink/basin, mirror and towel racks were in the bedroom, and the tiniest bathroom I have ever seen had been built into one corner of the room. It is a true water *closet* (maybe 4.5 feet by 2 feet) with a toilet and shower stall. Perfectly functional and very clean, but I wouldn't recommend this room for larger people or anyone who is claustrophobic.

As I mentioned earlier, our room had a balcony overlooking a pretty garden that is quite nicely screened from the street by large trees. The garden had a patio area and lounge chairs, however, it wasn't outdoor lounging weather while we were in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

I would definitely recommend the Gästehaus Alpenkranz to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, clean and comfortable accommodation.

  • Liked — clean & comfy, good value
  • Disliked — TINY bathroom
