My husband, myself, another couple and a friend were booked into this hotel by the owner of another gasthof, due to a reservation mistake (not on our part) that left us without a place to stay one night. We were doing some sightseeing during the day and knew that we were going to be late checking in (around 7:30 pm) so we called to make sure that they knew we were still coming - reconfirmed the reservation. When we arrived, dinner was in full swing so no one was at the reservation table. We went through the restaurant and after waiting a long time, were finally assigned 3 rooms. The owner, who was not in a good mood, proceeded to tell us that one of the rooms did not have a room key and nothing could be done about it. We weren't complaining - we told her that we could work around it. We were also told that 2 of the rooms were singles but either one could be made up into a double, just let them know which one. We dragged our luggage upstairs and the other couple took the double room overlooking the parking lot (headlights coming and going during the night), our single friend had the single overlooking the veranda and we took the room without the key (another single for which we were charged a double rate). The bathroom in our room and the other single was quite the experience. The tub/shower, although I would hardly call what was there a shower, was tucked under the eaves - one had to be 3 feet tall to stand up in it and even then, you'd be cracking your head on the ceiling! Kind of had to roll in and out of the tub. There were also no hair dryers - an issue when one is traveling light.
We decided to eat there since the food looked good and we were up the mountain and would have to drive to get anyplace else. The restaurant was not packed but semi-crowded so we sat down and waited...and waited...and waited. Finally, some one came and took our order which was difficult since they had run out of almost everything on the menu. Waited some more and one dish came out. Waited some more and 3 more dishes came out - at this point I was the only one without food so my husband asked the waiter about the missing dish. The waiter flashed us an "oh no" look and ran to the kitchen. He came back and asked me if I would like a small salad or a large salad. Since the dish I had ordered came with a salad, I said small and out came a small green salad with potato salad. I was almost done with it when my husband caught the waiter again and asked where the rest of my meal was - turns out that the salad was my meal. Apparently, he had forgot my order and by the time everyone's meals were served and we asked about mine, the kitchen was closed and the salad was the best that they could do. Good thing the wine was cold.
