I had a super experience at Hotel Hilleprandt. I spent sixty-one nights at the hotel from June-Aug 2011. I spent a lot of time searching for a value hotel in Garmisch. The hotel is in a great location and the Hilleprandt family, Christiane and her father Klaus who own and run the hotel are simply--- kind, attentive, generous and very accommodating. I originally was planning only to stay ten days, but ended up staying for the duration of my holiday. The owners and staff of this delightful haven could not have done more to keep me happy and make my stay comfortable. I felt I was lodging with close relatives.
There is plenty to do in Garmisch and the surrounding area. I was fortunate to be able to explore not only the city but also the mountains. All of my day trips were wonderful but knowing that our comfortable room with a beautiful Bavarian mountain view at Hilleprandt Hotel would be tidied and ready for me upon return was comforting. Located away from other hotels, the less touristy location was an ideal starting place for daily trips. Best of all your only a 5 minute walk from the center of the “fussgaengerzone”. The breakfast is typical European flare—plenty of bread, cheese, a nice meat selection, fruit and cereal is included in the room charges. The one-touch coffee machine brews an excellent cup of your favorite coffee. Breakfast is served from 0800-1000. Half board is available. I did eat dinner at the hotel on a few occasions. You’ll have to make arrangements with Chistiane in advance for dinner. Dinner at their small, intimate restaurant is a perfect tribute to Bavarian cuisine. During my sixty days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding areas I ate a most every restaurant. Christiane’s three course supper, served promptly at 1830 was unrivaled by other restaurant experience in Garmisch. Why? Enjoying dinner in the quite, private garden with southwestern view of the Alpspitze and Zugspitze mountains in unmatched. If the weather is permitting you must sit outside! You won’t find another gem like this in Garmisch. The setting is lovely, the service speedy and impeccable. The food was delicious and plentiful. Just sit back, relax enjoy the view and order another beer. The dinner cost is less expensive than most other places in town. I’ll suggest if you’re on a tight budget you may want to consider the half-board options at Hotel Hilleprandt. If you are traveling to Bavaria you will not be disappointed by a stay at this fine family run inn—of GREAT VALUE!!
I stayed in three different rooms during my extended holiday. All of the rooms were very clean, nicely decorated and the bathrooms large and well maintained. The hotel room interiors were newly renovated. The spa is small, very clean. The rooms had telephones and TVs. The beds are turned down nightly which adds a nice touch. There is wi-fi available for a small additional fee, about €5.00 for two days. There is a free computer in the lobby that I used frequently as well.
The hotel is in a great location. You can easily walk to the train stations, both the DB and Zugspitzebahn (5 mins) and to the pedestrian zone (5 mins). There is ample parking adjacent to the hotel. The hotel is family and dog friendly. You’ll meet the owners’ dog upon arrival. Don’t worry, he is big—but as harmless and aggressive as a butterfly. During my visit there were many motorcyclists and bicyclists who stayed at the hotel. The Hilleprandt’s were accommodating to their special needs. Chistiane and Klaus speak excellent English (along with several other languages). They were also helpful in making recommendations for local activities. Klaus’ local mountain weather tips were spot on. If he says bring a rain jacket or umbrella—do so.
There is a €2.00 per person city tax per night in addition to the hotel charges. The hotel staff will provide you a coupon voucher when you check in that will allow you to ride all of the city buses for free. The bus service is very good in Garmisch and the local area.
The hotel is quiet at night. Room Tip--if you are visiting on a Tuesday or Sunday night in the spring and summer, Garmisch sponsors free musical concerts at the Am Kurpark located in the pedestrian zone. If you have a north facing room, open the window and enjoy the concert.
I’ll be back again! Top value in Garmisch. You don’t spend time in your hotel room in Garmisch. Enjoy the outside. However, once you do return to Hotel Hilleprandt—you’ll feel welcomed and pleased you chose wisely.
