The hotel is situated on a pedestrian only street that looks like a page from a picture book!

We stayed in the gasthaus barbara behind the hotel. Our room was very clean, very large, and comfortable, but a bit outdated. We had the room with the red bathroom. There was a great view out the window above the sink.

Of course we had dinner in the restaurant. It looked like quite a few locals eat there regularly, the hostess treated them like family. She treated us like family, too!

I'd definitely return here for the experience alone.

We traveled to Bavaria for our spring break in March 07 and chose the Gasthof Fraundorfer based on previous Tripadvisor reviews and photos. We stayed for 2 nights in a quad room on the second floor. Although it looked a bit outdated, it was extremely clean, comfortable and economical. The restaurant, as everyone agrees, was wonderful. We really enjoyed the music, dancing and overall atmosphere. The breakfasts in the morning were wonderful as well - very generous, fresh and delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful with questions and directions. A previous review warned us that there wasn't a front desk for check in. We checked in inside the restaurant which seemed strange but only added to the charm. The weather in March was beautiful and we were able to walk everywhere. I would recommend the Gasthof Fraundorfer to anyone!

We regularly visit and enjoy the good food and great atmosphere at the Fraundorfer restaurant, so when we needed a room in Garmisch, and found ourselves without reservations, we decided to try the Fraundorfer.

We got the hotel 'apartment' which is located in the back of the building right over the kitchen. I found the old food/cooking odors *very* unpleasant, and we could not enjoy the balcony for the same reason...the smells and sounds of the kitchen were overwhelming. The room itself was ok, although in my opinion, the entire apartment is overdue for a renovation. The rooms we looked at in the separate gasthaus 'Barbara' were much prettier and all around better looking, but we needed the space in the apartment, so we took that.

Our rate included breakfast, which was very good. All in all, I was disappointed in the room we got, and I also felt it was overpriced. However, we might stay there again, especially if we could get a room in the newer building in the back. We both highly recommend the restaurant Fraundorfer...definitely try it on your next visit to Garmisch-Partenkirchen!

My husband and I just returned from Partenkirchen and the Gasthof Fraundorfer. This was our second time staying with them. I made the reservation a few months back and yet ended up staying in the Gasthof Barbara, which is a building located behind the main house and next to the parking lot. Sadly, we were less than thrilled. Our first-floor room was tiny and overlooked the parking lot and trash bins. For the most part it was quiet except in the morning when people were leaving in their cars. The breakfast was okay, but the cream for the coffee was old and curdled in our mugs. However, the restaurant's wait staff is wonderful. Very friendly and extremely helpful. We ate dinner there one night and just loved it. I would definitely recommend dining there at least one night, but probably not staying there. The rooms are not as nice as they should be and are a bit worn. Lastly, upon checkout, I used a VAT form, which deducts the 19 percent tax rate from the bill, and was chastised for not giving it to them at check in. I let the woman know that I had told the person at check in that I was using the form and they did not note it or ask for it at the time. Nothing like German hospitality!
