“Felt like we were an inconvenience and they seem to hate children”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Plus points: good location and female manager was helpful when asked about local excusions.
Not so good points: we felt like we were 'inconveniencing' the staff by being there. We were there for the last 3 nights before their annual 6 week shutdown - and you could tell.
Stale bread and no fresh rolls or croissants at breakfast after the first day, because there 'weren't enough guests' to justify buying fresh - despite us paying 200 Euros per night for 2 adults / 2 kids.
We noticed that the breakfast waiter treated guests with no kids with considerably more respect than us, despite me speaking fluent German.
The staff (apart from the female manager and the gardener) were grumpy, bordering on surly.
We were shouted / told off 3 times by staff - twice by the cleaner and once by the waiter (toddler walking in restaurant is apparently dangerous and shouldn't be permitted).
The owner was positively rude and on our final day (we later realised it was their last day before their break). They point-blank refused to let us store our luggage there, insisting we take it to the train station lockers instead.
The restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay (no warning had been given), due to the low number of guests, but we had booked the hotel partly because it had one...
On the final morning, the behaviour of the staff was so bad that we ended up asking the gardener what was wrong - we wondered whether someone had died, they all seemed so grumpy and upset! (Fortunately not).
We booked a 'suite' - advertised as 2 bedrooms with a balcony. We arrived and had 2 adjoining rooms on a very busy main road and no balcony. No point in complaining - the owner would probably have chucked us out!
This hotel has potential. However, it is impossible for it to be a welcoming space for families, unless the owner changes his attitude towards his guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not adjacent to the very noisy main road.

We stayed at the Wittelsbacher for 3 nights on an 11 day road trip through southern Germany parts of Switzerland and Salzburg Austria.

On the good side it looked ok from outside, the garden area was nice, the breakfast was well done, the parking was the best we had in Germany and the location to the pedestrian area was only a few blocks away.

Outside of that this hotel just is not anything close to a 4-5 star hotel which is the way I look at the very good to excellent ratings trip advisor uses. The room was small, not really a problem for me and the linens where clean but the room had major issues. Take a look at the pictures posted of our beautifully dirty and broken in many places chandelier. If it was just broken well then ok but it had a very thick coating of dust all over it, it had not been cleaned in weeks.
The shutters where pealing paint badly also see picture. I will say that overall I did not think the room was dirty. I just cannot put a 4-5 star rating on a room with the issues this room had.

Why I posted a 2 star rating? Well the night guy (AKA Lurch) at the front desk did not want to be bothered by anything and had the personality of a fish. We asked him for an Ice bucket each night and he got us one but it felt like he was doing us a favor each time. The other people where friendly however the guy we interacted with by far the most was the night guy.

At the end of the day I did not hate this place. It is in a good spot, the breakfast was nice, parking was easy just don't call it a 4-5 star hotel, it is at best a 3 star is that is tired needs some help and the price reflects that.

Group of six spent 8 nights at this hotel. Everyone from the cleaning personnel to the manager provided excellent service and very friendly. We drove from Munich to Garmisch and plenty of free parking on the side street. Downtown area was about a 3 block walking distance from the hotel and the bahnhof (train station) about a 10 minute walk. The three rooms we booked had different characteristics about them and the layout of the rooms were also different. All were small but quaint and all three had beautiful views of the Alps. Continental Breakfast was served every morning with a good variety of fruit, meats and cheese, cereals, breads, juices, coffee and tea. Overall experience was absolutely fantastic and I will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden have balconies and have gorgeous views of the Alps.

It's quaint. Definitely clean and enjoyable, but very very old school. Bathtubs with hand held showers and no curtains, no desk in the room etc. But, the staff is very friendly, their wifi is fantastic (fast, and easily accessible everywhere on property) and the ambience just takes you back to a simpler time. Less than a 15 minute walk to the main part of town, close to the shops and restaurants and easy to find. Don't know if it would be my first choice to come back to, but for the price, and the nostalgia , I don't regret having been here at all!

Pros: The breakfast was well done. The pool was nice. Parking was free in front of the hotel. The hotel is an easy walk to the downtown area. The hotel was quiet, it felt like we were the only ones there.
Cons: Would not take VAT form because we had a "special rate" whatever that means. Staff cordial but not friendly.

a nice hotel with view of Alps a short distance from the station if not having much luggage you can walk it up . within walking distance from the town square. the hotel provided us with cards which were valid on the buses . The restaurant gave served us good vegetarian food and we tried a dessert which was baked ice cream the rooms were spacious and good. the only minus is they donot have shower curtains in the bath tub .

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel. We were a little worried about the noise when we saw that it was on the main street but it wasn't a problem at all. The town is very quiet. This hotel has a great location in the Garmisch sector of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Their restaurant is very good and so is the included buffet breakfast which is very complete. They have a nice terrace adjacent to the restaurant. Free parking in front of the hotel was also a great asset. We used the interior pool which is very nice and it has access to an outside seating area as well. The only downside in our room was that the bath only had a handheld shower; you can imagine the mess that makes since there is no shower curtain. Maybe not all rooms are like that.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are better
