I had a tiny room with way too much furniture which was located on a busy street. The hotel was quaint and staff was very nice. The food was average except the salads and desserts were excellent. About the only thing to do in this village is shop if the Passion Play is not playing. There is a nice outdoor eating area. As a solo traveler in Europe I know my room will be small
but this was really small and I asked them to take out a chair and glass table so I could open my luggage. The location in the village was great but only for the village--not close to other activities.

Great hotel and wonderful staff. Oberammergau is a really pretty little town and we enjoyed our stay. If driving there, be sure to park in parking lot that's in the back of the hotel prior to checking in. We left our car in a spot just to the left side of the front of the hotel for only 5 minutes while we checked in, and got a parking ticket for 15 Euros. They told us afterwards you should park in the back lot first because the gate will open when you pull up to it. Tip on restaurant: the Hotel Maximilian is a short walk away, and is a nice brew pub with a pretty outside terrace restaurant.

I liked the room decoration. Though it lacks elevator and might be problem if you have heavy luggage, but they had good attitute and smily faces. The bathroom was large too though they just need to get some new touvels while they were farely clean. The breakfast was also good and oveall you might find it interesting specially if you would like to be close to shopping centers.

On the plus side:
The location at the heart of the village,
The free parking,
The large room with a kitchenette
On the minus side:
The room was fairly dark, overlooking a grim courtyard that actually is the parking lot
The breakfast is "essential"
No wifi access in the room and rather stiff rates anyway
Overall, i am not sure i would go again or would recommend.

I love this hotel and stay there every time I go to Oberammergau.
The rooms are good, beds and comforters great and I love
going down to their lovely breakfast. It's in a certral perfect
location for restaurants and walking around the fabulous town.
Staff is most accommodating and all speak good English.

This is a mean, penny-pinching and cheerless place. This is manifest at breakfast in the thimble-sized glasses of juice and the minimal tray of sliced sausage and cheese. The theme continues in the rooms, with the soap and shower gel dispensers filled with cheap, bulk-bought, unattractive-smelling stuff; the 25cl bottles of water priced at 2 euros each; and the small, thin, cheap, towels. It continues further with the extortionate charges for internet access. And so it goes on. The interior of the place is slightly shabby. The staff don't appear to be at all concerned about the plague of flies afflicting the dining/breakfast room. Plus points: free guest parking and the central location. I would not recommend the Alte Post hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights, arriving on the train from Munich. The hotel is only a 7 min walk from the station, right in the centre of the town. Staff were helpful and friendly and our deluxe room at the back of the building seemed very newly fitted out, with a beautiful modern bathroom including unusual glass wall (which could be covered by a blind if necessary!) Sound proofing was excellent between rooms in our part of the building. The buffet breakfast was good, and we ate once in the restaurant, which served typical Bavarian dishes. We were there to walk in the mountains and found that there was no need for a car as you can walk straight from the hotel following all sorts of well marked paths - either uphill or down the valley. Good local bike hire too for a trip to Linderhof. Just one small grouse was that although we were on the 2nd (non-smoking) floor with balcony, you are allowed to smoke on the balconies, meaning that smoke from next-door smokers came into our room. I guess if you don't want this to happen, then don't choose a balcony room. Overall, a lovely place to stay.
