“A special host!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

The guesthouse itself is lovely, with modern facilities and a lovely breakfast. But what really stands out above the rest is the host Mr Otto Huber himself.
We were amazed at the genuine interest he takes in each and every guest: for example at b'fast he came over and was really interested in our country, Malta and was fascinated by the fact that we have our own language, with its semitic and romantic influence, plus a dose of English words. Later on while leafing through his books about the Passion Play, I could hear him discussing the Maltese language with an Italian couple, even remembering a few words which are common to both the Italian and Maltese language!
A truly special host, indeed.

It was our first time in Oberammaagau. The host welcomed us with open arms. They were friendly, spoke english, and are real helpful to point out places to go for Snowboard equipment, slopes, restaurants, and the pool too! They showed amazing hospitality. The room is a typical European room(small) but big enought for two people and it is super clean. The bed is very comfortable. We had a door that opens to the balcony where we kept our bag of ice for drinks. The bathroom is decent size. Well, the shower is big enough for two people to fit in and not feel cramped. Our window showed an amazing view of the mountains. They had beer stored in the fridge for the guest. Beer was about 80 euro cent. They also had sauna. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Plus, there's a slope within walking distance from the hotel. You Don't need to pay for parking. Otto and Eva( the owners) gave each of us a card, which will give you discounted lift tickets for the nearby slopes and the swimming pool, too. Breakfast is included with the booking price.

It was our first time in Germany and we weren't sure what to expect. We got to our accommodation late at night and Otto and Eva (the owners) had waited up for us. Otto shook my hand and then placed a bottle of beer in the other. It was the best welcome ever!

Our room was excellent. We had a great view of the mountains from our balcony and also from a little seating area inside too (perfect for those chilly evenings).

Breakfast was perfect with a selection of meats, breads, cereals, fruit, cakes, yoghurt, fruit juices and a coffee machine which confused and amused.

I can't speak highly enough of Otto. He was so helpful and he brainstormed with me on what to do and see each day. He is also very amusing and likes a bit of banter. Oh, and he's actually quite famous in Oberammergau on account of his involvement with the Passion Play (even though he is quite modest about that). Otto and Eva make you feel very welcome and they are surrounded by lovely staff helping all the way. One night we bumped into Otto on our way out and he told us there was a concert of Bavarian music at Oberammergau Haus - he had just given a speech there. He offered to give us a lift to the venue because he was eager that we should experience some Bavarian culture. It was great!

Gastehaus Otto Huber made our holiday special. It's probably the best place we've stayed in terms of character and location and helpful owners and staff. I recommend it highly.

We hope to go back one day and enjoy some more banter with Otto and some wonderful Bavarian hospitality.

A big THANK YOU to Otto, Eva and the team!

Room Tip: Room 8 is a double room with wonderful views and a great balcony.

Although we had been to Oberammagau before, this visit was an unexpected bonus. We made our booking through Booking.com and were delighted with the hospitality we received from Otto and his lovely wife, Eva. We were travelling with our eldest daughter and we found our bedrooms to be clean and comfortable. Ours even had a little sitting room with a view to the mountains. The breakfasts were delicious with fresh fruit salad and other home-cooked delicacies served. The Hubers have been deeply involved in the Passion Plays over the years and it was interesting to hear them talk about that and show us the many books they have on the subject. We were sorry that our time was limited because we were offered bikes to ride and walks/climbs suggested. This would be a wonderful place to spend more time.

A large group of us stayed here for two weeks. The rooms were very comfortable and clean with a good shower, hairdryer, shaving mirror, small table and comfy chairs. The room safe was a real bonus. Breakfast was varied and plentiful with boiled eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit salad as well as the usual cereals, cooked meats and cheese. Hot and cold drinks were available throughout the day for a small charge.
Otto and Eva were perfect hosts who went out of their way to make our holiday special: nothing was too much trouble. They both speak excellent English.
We were in Oberammergau for a walking holiday and found plenty of good walks in the area. The guest pass which gave us free travel on the local buses was very useful for exploring a bit further afield.
We were also able to take advantage of the excellent cycle paths with the bikes available at the hotel.

We stayed 3 nights while in Oberammergau and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were a family of 3 and booked a triple room, we were given a large bed and a smaller bed for our child which they thought was fun. The room was clean and even had a small table and chair to sit at. The bathroom was tight but the shower had nice water pressure, plenty of hot water and shower head was high enough for my 6’ tall frame! There was a nice balcony with 2 chairs that overlooked the mountains, great way to wake up in the morning!

Breakfast is served in the newer modern addition and provides lot of natural light. Breakfast consist of standard euro fare, fresh sliced cold cuts, cheese, bakery, cereal, fruit and made to order soft/med/hard boiled eggs. They have a superauto espresso/latte/coffee machine that produces a decent beverage, other juices and milk are available also.

We enjoyed the bicycles that are free to use and they even have a child seat on one of the bikes. They had about 12 different bikes including childrens. If you have younger children they will like swingset on the property, it’s nothing fancy but after a day of travel and sightseeing it’s nice to have a coffee, relax and watch the kids play.

Otto loves what he does and can share information on the area and suggest ideas for your day.
We only stayed 3 nights and I wish we would have skipped Munich and spent all our time in southern Bavaria, it was nice to be out of the city and explore all the various small towns. They also have laundry on site which was a nice bonus for us after traveling to 7 days.
