“Wow, fabulous views with fantastic hosts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

This guest house was the highlight of our stay in Bavaria. They always say location location location and this is up there with the very best. its only a short taxi ride from Mittenwald centre approx. 9 euro and the views are litterally breathtaking. Accommodation is very good, clean and everything you could want, we had room 6 which had a nice powerful en-suite shower and wonderful terrace so you could just walk out from your room and enjoy the mountain views. The best thing about the guest house apart from the location is the hosts, Ingolf & Heidi. They are both charming and nothing is too much trouble. Make sure you ask questions about places to go etc as Ingolf is well read and put us onto some great days out and fabulous eating places (check out Da Mama Lucias in the village) They will bring you lovely hot drinks or fabulous ice cold german beer and / or food at your request. The breakfast is also brilliant! Fresh breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, honey and jams washed down with as much fresh fruit juice or hot tea / coffee that you can shake a stick at. They will also ask you what time you want your breakfast (as each is done bespoke) and where you want it? This can be in the lovely breakfast room, which has great views or on a nice warm day on your terrace. Also they will do eggs for you anyway you want them. I would recommend this guest house very highly indeed and ask the Terminator says " I'll be back"

The hotel is located in a wonderful position overlooking the valley and the mountains behind: very quiet and peaceful. The guest house itself is a bit dated, the room was a bit old but all the common areas are well kept, and the owners are so helpful and friendly that it feels like being at home. Highly recommended for a relaxing break.

Our hosts were Heidi and Ingolf at the BÄCKERALM am Schmalensee and it was the most beautiful scenery with a first class warm and inviting atmosphere. We will most certainly return.

Stayed here two nights with three other adult family members. Three of us shared one room downstairs, & one person had a single room upstairs. Be prepared for a VERY steep driveway. The views from this B&B are absolutely glorious. Hosts Ingolf & Heidi & their two pups were gracious, friendly & hospitable - very kind & helpful. Breakfast was delicious, & the breakfast room warm & cozy, especially with the sun streaming in the windows. The decor is traditional & charming. This is a lovely place. I slept on a pull-out couch, which was large but more firm than I'm used to - however I remedied that with some extra cushioning. The single room seemed a bit of a make-shift room - the shower was right in the small room, & the restroom was across the hall. Our group member who stayed there was not too keen on that, but I wouldn't have minded. I took a walk down the road & discovered even more unbelievably beautiful mountain scenery. (It was along a small road where cars are not supposed to drive, except local people.) Be sure to take the cable car up the mountain in Mittenwald - be aware there will most likely be snow at the top. Discovered a friendly little family-run restaurant on a back street in Mittenwald - packed full of locals. Good food & lots of character. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this charming B&B! I hope I can come again & stay longer.

Hotel is located on the hill, very few kilometers from Mittenwald. Mittenwald is a very nice small town with its original architecture, small houses and narrow streets. Very great location for traveling. 30 minutes drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 1 hour to Innsbruck (Austria), 30 minutes to Seefeld (great place for skiing and snowboarding for beginners).

We stayed there 5 nights. The room was clean and very cozy. Stunning view of mountains from our balcony was a very big plus. The place is very quiet and peaceful. It is a great place to stay if you want to escape from a big city.

The breakfast was very tasty. Buns of bread from Austria and butter, milk, eggs, cheese, ham and bacon from Bavaria. It gave us energy to ski till the evening).

The hosts are very helpful. We were given a lot of useful information about the area, sightseeing and skiing!

Great hotel, great service and amazing views!

I've just returned with my wife from a trip to Upper Bavaria. We chose this hotel based on location and previous Trip Advisor reviews. The location is stunning with views across a small valley to the mountains beyond. Oue hosts were unfailingly helpful and a real source of valuable information in relation to local sights, routes, restaurants and the like. Ingolf deserves all the praise that's heaped upon him. Mittenwald is a delightful village; enormously attractive, small enough to feel welcoming yet brimming with charmings restaurants and bars. The violin museum is fascinating and well worth a visit. It's an ideal base from which to visit a host of attractions in this region and a hop across the border into Austria is simple and straightforward (beware Austrian motorways, though, unless you have a pre-paid pass entitling you to use them - without this, there's a hefty fine!). I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and the location as an ideal place to spend a couple of days or simply from which to explore the wider area. To Ingolf and his wife, I say many thanks and we hope to stay with you again at some stage in the future.

Room Tip: We enjoyed two rooms during our stay, one with a ground floor terrace and the other with a first flo...

We stayed three nights (Friday to Sunday) in mid-September and were made to feel very welcome by our hosts and provided with lots of information on the area and places to go/things to see. The room was comfortable and clean and breakfast was excellent. Mainly though, our hosts were friendly, very attentive and keen to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Backeralm is a little way out of town, but providing you are prepared to use the free local bus or have your own transport, this is not a problem and adds to the peace and tranquility of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the terrace for easy access to the garden and great views.
