“trip throught Obersalzberg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Interesting location above Berchtesgarden intertwined with the history of war 2. Access road is quite steep and narrow is not for those drivers who drive only on highways or straight roads.

“Learn about the history of WW2”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

Visit the document centre for a comprehensive history of the second world war and go down into the bunkers! Then travel upto the eagles nest for a fantastic view across the whole area. A chilling and powerful reminder of dark times, but makes you appreciate what we now have in Europe and you will met nice people along the way.

“The visting sites are closer together than you would think.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

We visited Obersalzberg for the Dokumentation and to see the former building sites. Firstly, the Dokumentation is a truly informative and open account and history of Obersalzber and the rise and fall of Hitler. You can spend hours and hours reading through the boards of information, looking at photos and documents and watching videos; in addition to walking through the ruins of a bunker system.

The only disappointment at the Dokumentation was that all the information is presented in Germany and you need to use an audio guide to follow in English.

We arrived at the Dokumentation Parking area (same one as Eagles Nest - Kehlsteinhaus) at 9:00 (monday) and there seemed to be plenty of parking however, by 11:00 the place was completely full, with people parking on the surrounding roads. My recommendation - Get there early! It is also much more pleasant walking through the sites with few other people.

After Dokumentation we wanted to see the Berghof ruins, SS camp and HQ etc. What we realised is that all the places (naturally I guess) were very close together in Obersalzberg and only a few minutes walk from the Dokumentation. From the Dokumentation, you walk pass the entry to a small path which leads you down hill to the Berghof ruins (4 min walk). Continue along path for 2 min and you will find the Zum Türken Hotel (former SS HQ and bunker system). Another 2 min up the hill towards intercontinental hotel and you will find the path again leading you back to Dokumentation.

An easy walk, everything is closer than you think and you get to see what it all the former building sites look like now.

“No air conditioner on bus going up!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

You take a bus going up to the eagle nest(hitlers house)
The problem is in today's weather summer in Europe is HOT!!!
Taking the bus is a nightmare!!!.
You have to take the bus(walking up is for extremely fit people)
And the bus has no a.c. Plus no windows that cab be open.
Sorry this is a big no,no.
Any way the view is amazing and the whole thing is worth it.

Grim records and accounts of holocaust with eerie bunker. All proceeds to charity as we understood it.
