“An Authentic Experience with Amazing Views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Locating the hotel was a bit tricky but we loved the location. Our room faced the mountains and Berchtesgaden so we enjoyed amazing views from our balcony. The room was divided into a bedroom space and a living room space. The bathroom was a bit small though. We walked/hiked up and down the street to town for dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious with many choices.

The view from the hotel is amazing. Our room faced south into the town of Berchtesgaden and toward Mt. Watzmann. We spent most of the early evening and night just sitting out our balcony and taking in the view. The room was fine and very clean, but we mainly enjoyed the balcony. I asked for a south facing room, which is the side of the hotel with the great views. The route to the hotel is a little tricky, a tight turn up the hill and very narrow street. We’re from Illinois, so we’re just not used to driving on hills. It’s about a five minute drive into Berchtesgaden, which is where we ate and the town there is really nice.

Overall, the hotel is well cared for and well maintained. The dining room and parlor are cozy and comfortable. The only negative I have to note is that there is this crazy little kitten that I thought (at first) was stray, but it seems that he lives in the hotel. He’s clearly bored and just wants someone to play with, but I’m just not a “cat person” so it bothered me.

Last thing, I really recommend the Konigssee if you're in this area. It's touristy and not too cheap, but the scenery is breath-taking.

This is a family run hotel which offers breathtaking mountain views on one side. On a clear day you can see Hitler's Eagle's Nest on the mountaintop from the balconies that face that side.

Getting to the hotel was a bit of a challenge. The road leading to the hotel has a hairpin turn and, closer to the hotel, is extremely narrow. Still, we consider it worth the beautiful view.

It is a short drive to the World War II bunkers and Eagle's Nest, and not too long a drive to Salzburg.

The rooms were fairly comfortable and clean and food was quite tasty. You could walk down the hill for other eateries in the village too.

Overall, I would return to stay here again if I were ever to visit Berchtesgaden again.

We stayed 2 nights and were pleased with the location and the town. The actual directions to the hotel were complex, as we missed the turn to go up three times. Once we knew how to get there, it was very easy to get around. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant, choosing to eat in the neighboring areas. The breakfasts were very good.

A truly comfortable, charming and lovely residence overlooking Berchtesgarten. Very spacious rooms with a small balcony. Everything works and the staff is friendly.
Room tip: request rooms overlooking the valley (eg. room 17) for views of the surrounding mountains. On a clear day, the Eagle's Nest is clearly visible at the summit of the mountain in front of your balcony!!!

This hotel is excellently located just outside the centre of this very beautiful town, 15 minutes walk at the most. The rooms and hotel infrastructure are excellent most rooms having balconies with views of the mountains. The breakfast is adequate, the breakfast terrace having outstanding views.
We were perplexed however that the restraunt is shut on Mondays, together with the sauna. There is certainly no reference to this that I can see on their web site. It seems that after breakfast on Mondays the whole hotel is left devoid of staff/management, with no response from the reception area. We were slightly miffed by this having planned an afternoon in the sauna, followed by a hotel meal. When we mentioned this to the proprietor on settling our bill we were informed that this is because they were shut on Monday s (could nt help wondering if we would have got the same response for Tuesdays). I think I detected a hint of indifference and general lack of interest from the proprietors...Having said that the rooms are good, clean and the place is well located. I give 3 stars....it should with different management be four.

The guesthouse is in a lovely location overlooking the valley, although a tree has started to encroach on the view! We booked so last-minute we had to move rooms during our stay: we started in a four-bed family room with no view at the back (for which they kindly only charged us the double room rate) and moved to a double room looking out over the valley. The second room was beautifully decorated: wood paneled, little lounge, balcony. The kind of room you want to spend time in!

There are computers and internet access in the foyer.

They only open the restaurant on demand, so if you want to eat in the town every night, which we did, then you have to be prepared to walk back up the hill, as the last bus leaves the centre about 6pm! We didn't mind the walk (perhaps 20 minutes?) but some might. (Alternatively, you can take the last bus at ca 6pm UP the hill and eat at the restaurant at Maria Gern, which is a hidden gem, and then walk DOWN home again. Much easier!). You are given a bus pass for the duration of your stay.
