“Favorite hotel of the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We loved our stay at Hotel Edelweiss. The setting is spectacular- the mountain views from the rooftop are stunning. I didn't want to leave!
The breakfast was memorable- fresh pressed juices, a dozen whole grain breads and delicious fresh spa-type food available. The indoor pool is nice and gave my son a good break from sightseeing. We were the only Americans there- surrounded by Germans on holiday, which made our stay even more interesting.
One note- the hotel itself is bigger and a little more 'corporate' than I would have guessed by the photos. This is not a quaint little inn. However- they do a great job.
Families: note there is also a small play room. We went in there for a few minutes just for the kids to act like kids and play in the ball pit. At check in they even provided child size spa slippers and robe.
The only thing I wish I had done differently is stay longer. It does take effort to get to Berchtesgaden- but worth it, I highly recommend Edelweiss.

Excellent location, service, quality of room, food. The only minor issue was that Internet was slow. They do have reasonably priced 5 course dinner which I recommend, unless you're a foodie. Ask for an exit parking ticket.

Room Tip: Ask for a view room unless you're concerned with noise.

If you have kids, stay here. The hotel is in the centre of this small but beautiful town. We has a Feng Shui suite which is large room suitable for family of four. This wing of the hotel has it's own lift directly to the car park, which is only 4 euros per day. Eagle's nest views, Brilliant breakfast buffet. Excellent kids club with play area. Easy to get to Salzburg by bus for a few euros return. Also great pool and hot tub. Lots to do in area. We loved it.

Room Tip: Fend Shui Suites for families.

We ended up here because we were looking for a nice place in the SouthEast of the Bavarian Alps and the hotel was very well rated on TripAdvisor. We had fairly high expectations and the hotel managed to exceed them. The hotel is four stars superior, which is just a notch under five stars and was significantly better than other German four stars hotels we stayed in. The rooms are large and beautiful. Ours was on the first floor and overlooking one of the traditional restaurants in the area, but even with the window open it was not particularly noisy if you don't mind hearing people chatting underneath your window. Everything was great in the room, with one exception – very little water in the minibar, so it is wise (not only from a cost perspective) to buy one or more large bottles of water. There is a supermarket close by so this is not a real issue.

Breakfast was excellent and the variety of food was huge, enough for every taste or culinary restriction (I think). There is an option to have dinner included as well, but we did not take that. We ate once in the hotel restaurant and I had a decent pizza.

The location is also very good – it is in the middle on Berchtesgaden and the main shopping/food areas are basically just behind the hotel. We traveled there by car and it was easy to find. It is about a 10 minutes downhill walk to the railway station which is also the place where you take buses etc. to the Eagle’s Nest or where the footpath to the Konigsee starts. Of course, the way back is uphill, but nothing very difficult.Parking was also very convenient.

One of the hotel’s best features is the indoor rooftop pool – it is simply excellent and it was not very crowded even in high season. If you are one for sunbathing, there is a rooftop terrace set up just for that and it seemed to be a popular option among people staying there.

The staff was superb in terms of friendliness and quality of advice and the booklet they have given us was very useful in helping us decide what to do next.

All in all we had a delightful time in this hotel and in Berchtesgaden (which is simply lovely) and we wished we had more time to spend there. We went there as a couple and that was great, but we are already planning to return with our young son – the hotel was extremely baby/child friendly and Berchtesgaden and the surrounding area offered a lot of children-friendly options.

Room Tip: If you like to sleep with your window open and you go to bed early you might consider discussing thi...

We couldn't have asked for a better hotel to complement our magical stay in Berchtesgaden. The staff was nothing but kind & helpful- Elisabeth & her colleagues at the front desk. The rooms are cozy and well appointed and looked over a charming market side street. Close to a bus stop and not too far from the main train and bus terminals as well. The highlight though was definitely the spa and pool facilities. We had the good fortune of jumping into the outdoor hot tub in below freezing temperatures. Once in a lifetime experience for sure! The breakfast was lovely too. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area and we hope to visit again ourselves.

Beautiful resort hotel, in lovely Berchtesgarden . Beautiful views , and all the amenities. The staff is very helpful and all speak English well. The breakfast is the largest I have ever seen, selection and quality is best I have seen . Bathrobes provided as well as wonderful beds . Close to shopping and restaurants. Rooftop pool and hot tub, as well as spa and sauna.

Absolutely loved this hotel! It looks fab from the photos but would say this is one of the rare occasions when the professional photos don't do it justice. Hope that this summary is helpful to someone:

Location - right in the town centre, easy to find. Free parking was included in our rate, the car park is beneath the hotel with a lift straight into reception. It is 10 mins drive to the national park, which is an absolute must-see.

Room - we paid for a category b room but after looking online I can see we were given a c room for no extra cost. It was plenty big enough, spotlessly clean, modern bathroom with spacious, powerful shower, and lovely little balcony with a stunning view.

Spa - the pool on the top floor is heated and kept immaculate. We swam every morning before breakfast when it was empty. It looks out onto the roof terrace with jacuzzi and amazing mountain views. Downstairs is the main spa with jacuzzi, infrared pods, steam room and 3 different saunas, again all kept very clean. Yes, you are not allowed to wear swimwear in the saunas etc, but that is typical in Germany, so hey....when in Rome. We had two treatments included in our package and both had really good massages and also used the gym which was small but decent.

Food - breakfast was probably amongst the best we have had in a hotel, a vast selection to choose from, all really fresh. Dinner was great both nights, loads of courses and plenty to eat even if one course didn't appeal.

Staff - we found the staff to be lovely and helpful. Yes, this is a largely German speaking hotel, and there is very little in the way of English information/signage etc, so if that bothers you, then stay elsewhere. We actually enjoyed being somewhere a bit off the beaten track, and found that staff were happy to translate when they could, and tried to be helpful.

On checkout they gave us a bag of their house tea, which was a lovely touch.

We had an amazing stay here ... We will definitely be back!
