Couple in their 20's from the USA. Traveled around Europe for a month, this was by far the best place I found. Girlfriend and I stayed here for 3 days in early Nov 2011. Not a single complaint about this place. Truly professional and friendly staff/owner that speaks English well. It is obvious that they really do care about their customers, and will ensure that you have everything you need. Nicely updated and very clean rooms. We had a balcony with a outstanding view of the countryside. The owner gave us directions to hike a nearby mountain - Kneifelspitze and we had a great time. Huge breakfast every morning, we even had a home cooked meal one night that was great and on par with the rest of the experience. Nice self service Honor bar, write up your own tab! I really can't think of one bad thing to say about it. Definitely coming back again.

A British couple in our 50’s, we found the following:
Pros – Views to die for. We stayed in Room 4 which had a great balcony, was nicely furnished in a country style and had a 21st century bathroom. Owner (Michael) speaks good English and is very helpful without being intrusive. The whole place is spotless and a nice continental breakfast with fresh eggs is served outside on the veranda with spectacular views in good weather. Very reasonably priced. You are given a guest card on arrival which allows free travel on local buses and small discounts on other local services. Would definitely stay here again.
Cons – Quite steep stairs to bedrooms so unsuitable for people with mobility difficulties. If you are driving, it might be difficult to find (initially) without a sat nav. Payment by cash only.
Other –A couples (30’s-70’s) type of place whilst we were there. Although the guesthouse is only 15 min walk from Berchtesgaden town centre the last 5 mins are down a steep road – a bit of a slog on the way back, but at least you will work off the calories. It’s driveable in under 5 mins, but the road is narrow in places – think Devon ! Berchtesgaden is very attractive with nice shops and there are plenty of places to eat and great walks in the area.

We stayed at Rostalm for 3 days and wished we could have had longer. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful and the guesthouse itself was beautifully maintained.

We had a first floor room (no. 2) with a stunning view across the valley. The room was compact but clean, fresh and nicely fitted out.

The guesthouse operated an honesty box system for wine, beer and schnapps, so we particularly enjoyed pouring a glass of Riesling and sitting outside on the terrace to take in the breathtaking view and watch the cows roaming in the fields.

The guesthouse was about 20-30 minutes walk from Berchtesgaden centre which suited us just fine as we didn't want to be in the town but it did mean that restaurants etc. were on hand when we needed them. We were also perfectly located for lots of hiking and for getting to the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagles Nest) and Konigsee lake.

Breakfast at the guesthouse was plentiful and delicious. Lots of bread rolls, ham, cheese, pate, jam, boiled eggs, orange juice, yoghurts, tea, coffee etc. It is also possible to eat a home-cooked evening meal at the guesthouse but we didn't get the opportunity unfortunately.

Overalll, excellent value for money and somewhere where you feel instantly at home.

Room Tip: A room at the front affords excellent views!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Rostalm Inn in March this year. We were warmly greeted and our room was cosy, spotlessly clean with a beautiful view from the bedroom window.
