“Not worth it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2010

My daughter and I stayed here for the weekend. The room was acceptable and the pool very nice. The view of the surrounding area from our room was beautiful, but it was difficult to get past the dilapidated appearance of the hotel. The exterior needs a fresh coat and clearly the gardener must have been on vacation because not only was there knee-high grass/weeds everywhere, but the lawn chairs outside of the pool were strewn about like they had been through a winter's worth of storms. Sad but true that curb appeal matters. There is a small free parking lot out front, but the staff was unclear on how to get in (there's an arm), so I ended up paying for parking in garage (even though the lot was emptry). Hmmm.

This is a beautiful hotel situated in picturesque Bad Reichenhall. My room had a gorgeous view of the mountains. The room was clean and very nice with a big bathroom and bathtub, not just a shower. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The only problem was the wireless internet didn't work, and I had to use the computer in the lobby, which was free, but which was slow as molasses.

When we choose to stay at chain hotels such we do so because we know what we'll get. A reliable standard of decor, service and quality. But what is going on here, I do not know. This hotel is unlike any Mercure I have ever been to. The decor was dated and scruffy, the common areas poorly maintained (dead plants, awful lighting, etc) and the rooms were like a cheap motel. In our room we had curtains hanging off the rail, filthy windows which can't have been cleaned for weeks if not months, stained paintwork and nasty furniture.

In the end, we were so appalled that we insisted on a refund and moved to a different hotel in the town.

We just got done staying in this hotel in the bavarian alps. Location is about 300 or 400 yards from the main part of the tourist town of Bad Reichenhall with plenty of shops and wellness clinics. We arrived here at night, parking was free outside, 5 euros for the parking garage. The rooms are a little outdated, but are well kept, the bathroom was spotless, make sure you get a "double room" to ensure you have enough bed space for you and your "other half". There are balconies on each room, so that adds to the experience of being in the Alps. We ate dinner in the restaurant, and do have to say it was a pretty good experience. Food was moderately priced, good sized portions and the staff was willing to go the "extra mile" to ensure a quality experience. Bar/lounge was large and well staffed. Indoor pool is decent sized and of good quality. Recommend this hotel for the older at heart, go to Salzburg, which is 15 miles away if you are looking for more of the Nighlife atmosphere.

We stayed at the Golden Tulip hotel, which was about 100m walk up the hill from the restaurant. This restaurant was always busy, so we decided to try it. It was one of the best beer gardens we visited in Germany. The Wieninger beer was excellent, and the food even better. The staff was outstanding and we would like to thank David and Goran for their superb service. They also have a huge buffet, which we tried and loved. If you make Bad Reichenhall your base for visiting Salzburg/Berchesgaden, this is the place to eat!
