We have eaten here about 3 times in the last month and cannot get enough of the place!
The Taferene is a micro-brewery inside an old church. It is comfortably simple in its decor. The place has history that goes back to 1706 but the cooking and beer are very very fresh. The sirloin steak with garlic and pepper sauce is great. The boiled beef with horseradish cream sauce is amazing. The Pils beer is very good, as is the Gold beer. There are others that are brewed on site so you can expect them to be good also.
Prices are very reasonable, especially when you consider the freshness and quality of the food and the size of the portions. You will not leave here hungry!!!
Staff are friendly and helpful. As with all restaurants in this part of the world, service is leisurely. If you expect constant attention from your waiter/waitress you will be unhappy. If you don't mind a relaxed pace to order taking and drink service you will be fine. Another good feature is that dogs are welcome - this is typical in most German restaurants - provided they are well behaved.
Each time we have been there at least one of the staff has spoken good English. There is an English menu available if you don't want to translate the main menu. Sometimes on a weekend it can get busy so you may want to make a reservation. The Taferne has tables for 4, 6, 8 and has a upstairs area that could be a good place for a medium sized group to meet.
If you only eat in one restaurant in Allgau- make it this one!!!
