“great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

Surprisingly good value for money, especially in Stuttgart. The designer look of the lobby just screams out for a drink in the evenings after work. The rooms are small but equipped with all needed. One minor issue might be that there are no sockets near the desk, so if you have multiple assets to load or use you need to be creative.
Would recommend it for travelers who spend very little time in the room but but still want to have a nice lobby and bar to chill out.

This hotel is essentially what you would expect-- clean, pleasant and nice. I didn't have any significant problems with this hotel, nor do I really have anything to rave about, so I'll skip right to it:

THE GOOD:
-Clean rooms, comfortable beds
-Modern hotel decor, bar downstairs was well furnished
-Decent breakfast for a European hotel (breads, meat, cheese, yogurt, juice, etc)
-WiFi seemed decent (although I did not try Skype or any bandwidth hogs)

THE MEDIOCRE:
-Location: The U Bahn has a stop right outside, but even though it is only a short ride into town, the last train usually runs at about 12:38 at night. After that you're looking at a 25EUR taxi from the center of town to get back
-WiFi- The quality is good, but it is not free. It comes bundled with breakfast. 7EUR a day for breakfast and internet
-Housekeeping: I had no problem with their cleaning, but they sometimes ignored my Do Not Disturb sign and managed to vacuum up my tweezers I set with my toothbrush on the counter
-There is nothing nearby. No shops, no restaurants, etc. Mostly office buildings and petrol stations, etc
-The rooms are quite small... but this is Europe and, also, hopefully you won't be spending too much time in them
-The "Queen" beds are DEFINITELY not queen size. They are about a US full or UK double size.

THE BAD:
-Nothing. I don't have any significant complaints.

As long as you don't mind the location (and the limits that puts on your schedule for using the train) and having a rather small room, this is a decent hotel to crash at. It is about 2 miles from downtown Stuttgart... so close, although sometimes inconvenient.

These hotels are consistently great stays. They tend to be new (or maintained to that standard) they over great value with free wifi if you buy breakfast which is a reasonable cost (forget exactly) for a generous breakfast with many choices, good wifi signal and clean comfortable room and bed and consistently helpful staff.

The rooms are on the small side as are the bathrooms but completely modern and well designed.

There are two in Stuttgart - this one is out of the center and a quick ride from the autobahn.

Stay at these hotels whenever you are looking for a good functional place.

Very nice stay in a really good location - city center, railway station and underground transport were in few steps. Rooms were clean and beautiful. Enough space. The lobby was like a living room at home: very social, and at the same time private enough corners if needed. Nice disain and pleasant atmospere.

I've been in this hotel for 2 nights. The room was small, but the fact that everything looks new and well kept compensates this weakness. The breakfast was excellent, having fruit salad, boiled eggs, different types of breads and very good croissants. The personnel from the reception were polite and attentive, and the wireless internet works without problems. It was my first time in a Motel One hotel, and I was impressed by the fact that everything seems studied to maximize efficiency and provides a good value.
There a train/subway station just in front of the hotel (lines U7 and U15) and it takes only 10m to get you to the city center. The Stuttgart public transportation system works very well, and a 3 day ticket (that allows an adult to travel with 2 children up to 17th years old) costs around 14€. There’s another Motel One in Stuttgart, just in the city center. The next time I visit Stuttgart I intend to try this other Motel One.

I'm liking this Motel One chain; this is the second one that I've stayed in. The location is a bit off the beaten track, which is great if you are driving. Parking is less painful than staying closer to the city center. We didn't take public transport, but the nearest station is a few minutes out the front door. Clean, comfortable, pleasant, and professional service--predictable and excellent value.

Motels connote something lower down the scale in the US and I see some people have called it a budget hotel, which makes it sound less than appealing. It's much more. It's Ibis with an attitude, with chic, with flair, with wit. First there's the decor in turquoise, brown and grey. Colors you wouldn't think work but they do. Then the's the small but lovely black granite and white bathroom with a basin sink and terrific shower. There are designer lighting fixtures, clever built ins and this was the only hotel of half a dozen in Germany that had realll pillows, not those rags Germans consider pillows. I slept well for a change. The room is admittedly small, but it's so different I didn't feel claustrophobic. There are no clocks, but who doesn't have a cell phone these days, and no toilettes except for shower gel/soap. I travel with a lot of that stuff anyway, so I didn't mind. The downstairs lounge was lovely and hip, the food there excellent and the service terrific. I found the staff wonderful an helpful, and breakfast was a hip take on the typical Germam assemblage of cheese, meats, etc. You're right near the train station, and I would say if you have a choice, avoid the Hotel Unger around the block and choose this one They don't have WiFi (W-LAN auf deutsch), and at Motel One, it's not only available but free.

Room Tip: Order the velvety wine from Baden at the bar, Weingut Heitlinger.
