“Smart, clean hotel without the chain hoopla”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2009

Stayed here three nights while on business in March. The location (on quiet side street) is close to the main walking pedestrian shopping, sites and museums. Very clean throughout. Straightforward room, nothing fancy, covers the bases.

We stayed at this hotel at the end of November on our annual Christmas market trip to Germany.

We booked directly with the hotel and the communication was great.

We arrived by taxi but discovered that we could easily have done the journey by train and then underground with a short walk to the hotel.

The hotel is well situated and only a short walk from the main areas of the city. It's also in a great area for restaurants and the reception staff are more than happy to make recommendations.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained.

The breakfast room was lovely. I imagine it's great to sit outside in the summer. Breakfast choices were very good and items were replenished very quickly.

The rooms are of a good standard and a good size.

It is reasonably priced and as I've said the location is brilliant. The only downside is that they don't have a bar but the rooms do have very well stocked minibars. It really isn't a big deal.

Stuttgart is lovely and if you're thinking of going Christmas shopping I would say, don't hesitate just book it! I'd also book the City Hotel.

We've visited most German cities for the Christmas markets and Stuttgart is in our top three. It's a beautiful place and is full of helpful people who go out of their way to answer your question.

Had an early flight in the morning so took a chance and turned up at the hotel early. No problem at all and they even made us a very welcome pot of coffee too! Room very clean and smelt fresh too. We had a balcony overlooking the front but weather too cold to venture outside. Found room to be a good size although shower room quite small. If you are a big person you may have trouble there. Like all European hotels no face flannels are provided so remember to take your own. Breakfast was great and plenty of it. It was also possible to have a boiled egg if you asked for one. Was asked by the breakfast lady if you would like tea or coffee which was served in an individual thermos jug with real cream. My husband had tea one morning which he hated as the water was barely luke warm. As he likes very hot English tea it was quite a dissapointment.

The hotel was just yards away from a very handy supermarket and also the Olgaeck u-bahn stop which goes just about everywhere was just a few yard away too. Very handy after walking around Stuttgart to just have to go a couple of stops when your feet hurt! We would stay here again as the staff make such a difference.

This is not the place for a dedicated aesthete, but the City Hotel is still a reasonable alternative when visiting Stuttgart. My room was spacious and clean and had a nice bathroom. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in a quiet street just some 10 min. walk from the shopping district, and there is a grocery just around the corner.

Three of us (mother, adult daughter and niece) spent a couple of nights in this amiable, clean hotel. We walked from the train station and at first we thought City Hotel seemed a little out of the action of the downtown. Then we realized that some of Stuttgart's nicest restuarants were nearby, plus a wonderful gelateria. Our room for three was simple and clean. The front desk was helpful with restaurant suggestions. In particular, a nearby restuarant with a cobbled gaden in front was atmospheric, resonably priced and yummy. Reservations were a must. City Hotel's garden breakfast area is sweet as well. By the time we left, we had figured out how to take the street car to the train station and decided that the location was perfect.

Agree with the reviews on this hotel. Very small & quiet, but just the place for a base to explore central Stuttgart. Good value for money, given its location. Small room but the price was reasonable, compared to so many European cities, where the room is miniscule but the price exhorbitant. Spotless, very modern shower, good breakfast, helpful staff.

The City Hotel is a small, well-located 3-star hotel a block from the central Schlossplatz in Stuttgart. It's only a 10 minute walk to the main train station, where you can catch the train to the fabulous Mercedes-Benz Museum. All of the major attractions are on or around the Platz, including the Stuttgart Ballet, Opera, and the Staatsgalerie (art museum). The Hotel is also the start of one of three self-guided walks(map available for free in English at the Tourist Office next to the train station) into the hills surrounding Stuttgart, a wonderful way to start the day. The hotel is very clean, modern decor with well-appointed rooms and bathroom, free parking in the back of the hotel, and internet connection in your room. Rates in May 2008 were Euro 95 for two people in a double, including service, taxes, and a hearty Germany breakfast. The staff speaks very good English and guided us to good restaurants in the area, grocery store, internet "cafe", and directions for leaving town.
