“Don't Miss Breakfast!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2012

The hotel was fine for our stay. It was not glamorous, but was perfectly located for the Christmas Market, and a decent price. The included breakfast buffet was terrific, with a variety of meats, muesli, cereals, cheeses, eggs, sausage; Everything you could want, regardless of where you're from. The hotel seems to be located on the dodgier end of the block, but is still only a couple minute's walk to the busy shopping streets and the amazing Christmas Market.

This hotel is located in "Stadtmitte", central downtown, of Stuttgart, S-Bahn, and U-Bahn station are three minutes distance.
The hotel is little old and rooms are small, however it has very good breakfast buffet, wireless internet connection, and also staffs are kind and friendly.
Bed is also small, but not bad. Pillow is German style(?), thin. But the reception has others.
The hotel is good for business and also sightseeing.
Only problem is stay in high summar, the hotel has no air conditioner. I do not recommend, when it is very hot.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2010

My husband and I took a three night long weekend trip to Stuttgart, December 10-13, 2010 to attend the Christmas market (fabulous) and the Mercedes Benz museum and factory. We flew to Frankfurt Airport and there is a direct 70 minute high speed train which cost between 80-114 euros per person round trip. I selected this hotel due to its availibility and price and closeness to the main Stuttgart Train Station. You can walk to the hotel (a bit of a hike if you have alot of luggage) or take a subway to the next stop. We opted for a taxi which cost 8 euros, as this was our first trip and we spoke no German (no worry, most everyone knows English well) . The hotel is a decent place for the price, everything is very clean, and it is centrally located in the shopping district. The breakfast buffet is very good--eggs, sausage, homemade breads, local jellies and honey, different types of sliced meats, boiled eggs, and a nice assortment of yogurts, museli and cereals. They serve you coffee and whisk away used plates as soon as you are done!
The only complaint was the bed quality, the middle sagged in a little but it was firm, not a problem for me, but my husband was not comfortable.
The Christmas markets are beautiful---bring euros because no one takes a credit card there---but the other stores all take VISA/MC.
We took the train to Eslingen and they had a fabulous Christmas market and a Midievel market and the town is beautiful, definitely worth the trip. We bought each a 3-day train pass from the hotel, they keep them in the drawer and they cost 12.50 euros which they will add to your bill. Get it on the first day. Also, they have free wi-fi from the room and will give you a username and password.
We also rented a car from the front desk (I would have tried to use Hertz to see if I could get a cheaper rate, but this was a last minute thing!), and picked up the car at the Stuttgart train station. Cost 130 euros. We drove 1 1/2 hours on A81 to Triberg in the heart of the Black Forest (gorgeous). Bought a cuckoo clock and ate black forest cake. A must: spend 5 euros for the Garmin navigation system and plug the address of the Best Western in Triberg. Also, you must know how to drive a stick shift.
Hope this review is helpful, and have a great trip if you decide to go!

Although in one of the less exciting cities in Germany, the Hotel Ketterer is easily within 5 mins walk of Calvinstrasse where you have a great choice of bars (both traditional places for beers and also funky cocktail and wine bars) where you can sit outside (even in October) and restaurants where the prices are very cheap and the quality is surprisingly good. It's also located on the main shopping drag for those needing retail therapy.

I was there on business and had been booked into a single room at around €80 Euro including breakfast...okay the room was more like an inside cabin on a Seafrance ferry than the usual 5* room I'm used to, but it's not pretending to be a 5* hotel and the bed (albeit a small single) was comfortable, the room was spotlessly clean, the bathroom was fine with a great shower and...well, it was okay - nothing to moan about. Breakfast was fine too - nice fresh breads and with an imaginative combination of what was available, I managed to prepare myself scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on poppy seed toast and orange juice - there's also cereals, fruits, loads of breads, great cheeses (if you like that sort of thing at 8am)...again, absolutely fine. Hotel was quiet and only a complete prude with a sheltered background would notice any "----" or 'adult bars'...the area is hardy a red light district, just a normal German city where these things are as common as shoe shops. Safe area, not seedy and perfect if you want to be in the city rather than on the outskirts like Singelfigen for once (where you may get plusher hotels but deadly quiet locations). So, not the Ritz, but not at all bad neither...oh and the staff are all friendly, with good English and very helpful.

Although it's on Marienstrasse, it's at the far end where the neighborhood falls off to sex shops and massage parlors. It gets kind of funky around there.
It IS many buildings cobbled together to be one hotel (as one reviewer mentions), so you need to drop breadcrumbs to find your way back to the lobby. The lobby is small, but creatively decorated in modern reds. I don't know what one reviewer was referring to when he described it as a "traditional German hotel", because it seemed more like a substandard attempt at a western style hotel in my book.
Our room was very large, but not airconditioned & it was hot in August. Leaving the windows open meant a mosquito swarm feasting on us during the night, due to the water pooling on the tar-roof outside our window.
I'd say leave this one off your list. For the money you can do better.

This is a small downtown hotel which is older and more authentic type of German hotel. It is composed of several buildings cobbled together and has underground parking. Very nice breakfast buffet and cozy, German style dining room. Small lobby with very helpful staff. We had a huge room in back which we jokingly referred to as "our apartment in Stuttgart". Located right on a major shopping street and just a few minutes walk from the city center, old castle, etc. Ideal location. Just about a block from a train station. A great, cozy downtown hotel!
