“Excellent choice for budget travelers & short visits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2012

Good location and easy access to metro, free wi-fi (prefer rooms on1st and 2nd floor for good connection) good breakfast. You truly get what you pay and more from this hotel if you find a deal around 40-60 Euro per night for 2 person. Watch for deals!

Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice and have fridge. Bed is confortable. Hotel is in a quiet & safe location.

Cons: No sound proof in rooms

Room Tip: Rooms on 1st and 2nd floor for good internet connection

The hotel has a good location, walking distance to city centre. The room rate is really low. The rooms are small, but clean and with basic amenities (hair dryer, fridge, TV with German channels only).
The room isolation is terrible, we could hear everybody through the walls. I couldn't sleep all night - as guests were coming back from pubs I could hear everyone walking, laughing, slamming their doors.
Breakfast kind of made up for the sleepless night, it was excellent.

If you want to stay here, bring earplugs.

The only good thing(ish) is it is not too far from the centre. That's it. First of all, avoid the fifth floor if you have more than a small suitcase, as the lift only goes to the fourth floor! The "Double" room consisted of two narrow beds shoved together, but not close enough to serve as a double. The carpet, furnishings, television etc appeared to have come out of the ark. They turned off the heating and opened the window during the day, even though it was minus 2 celscius. The bacon and sausage at breakfast were cold and swimming in tepid water. At over 80 Euros per night, this is not value.

My friends and I were put up here after our original reservation at Hansa's sister hotel were screwed up. That worked out fine since the Hansa looked much nicer.
During my stay in Sep, 2010 the top floor was under renovation, but I don't remember the noise being a problem. My room had a/c, but my friends across the hall only had a ceiling window. Fortunately it was not hot out so it wasn't an issue.
The staff was very helpful in communicating with the airline that had lost my friend's luggage. It is also across the street from a drug store which was also convenient since my friend had all his toiletries in his luggage.
The rooms are small, and a bit old, but they were clean and the bed was comfortable. It is Europe after all, so I'm not complaining. The hotel does have an elevator, but it is weird because it stops at the stair way between floors, so you have to walk up a few stairs no matter what. But since I was on the top floor it was nice not to have to walk all the way. There was a small desk in the room, but no night stand which was odd.
The free breakfast was really good, and the nearest U stop is only a ten minute walk away.
Overall, it was a bit quirky, but the location, breakfast and helpful staff makes it worth the stay.

Firstly, this is the best budget hotel I have stayed at in Germany. It cost 35 euros for a single room in August. If all you need is a bed with a shower in the room and an all-you-can-eat breakfast, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about.

It’s easy to get to by tram or underground (2 or 3 stops), though I wouldn’t recommend walking with heavy luggage from the main station unless you rate yourself. It’s also convenient for Königsstrasse, the university and the renowned El Greco restaurant.

On the negative side, there’s no air-con, so it gets terribly hot in the small rooms. Of course you can open the windows that look onto a women-only fitness centre, but only if you’re not sensitive to the noise of traffic outside because it’s on a main road. Another bounce-factor for some people is that the ageing carpets are matted with suspect residue.

Adding to the negative aspects, the walls between rooms are rather thin, so it could be, that like me, you have to listen to a lady next door continuously saying “ja” in long slow drones around midnight, then increasing the frequency of the “ja’s” 5 minutes later and eventually culminating in a baritone growl. There was a man there too, but he didn’t seem to have any ability vocabulary-wise until after she had almost reduced to a whimper, at which point he kept stuttering the name of a well-known biblical character.

The toilet is great: a real gem in terms of flush power, which is important if you get stuck into the Nurnberger sausages in the morning. But the design of its catchment area, which has an unsubmerged overhang, requires the guest to utilize the toilet brush provided or risk leaving a message for the maid.

WLAN connection functioned very well on the first floor in room 108. But room 108 is next to the hotel sign, so the light from it comes into your room all night giving you the feeling you’re camping in an Icelandic valley on mid-summers eve.

If you want cheap, clean-ish accommodation at a good price, then this is your target, but I wouldn’t pay more than what I did for a single.

Further away from downtown than expected, horrible hotel with no internet service in the room, only at the lobby. Nice lady staff but all the male staff are horrible. Cleaner lady is very nice but the bathroom is so old, taps with rust, there is not much she can do.

Room Tip: Must specify which type of room is required, and don't let them give you whatever they have
