“Nice people.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

One night in Stuttgart to attend the Fruhlingfest, and I chose Hotel Unger for it's location and it's star rating. The location was perfect, the rates were very reasonable, and the breakfast was fantastic, however, it was not a 4 star hotel as advertised. The room was very basic, no air conditioning (it was warm that night), there was a dark stain on the carpet, there are no other amenities other than shampoo and a shower cap, no gym, no spa or sauna, nothing but the room and a breakfast (as the front desk explained), and the only elevator can only fit two people, maybe three. The staff was very friendly and helpful with information. I wondered why it was so inexpensive. To be fair, if you only need a place to stay for a night, it's a perfect place, but don't expect 4 star amenities. Oh, another thing, the hotel doesn't look appealing at all from the outside, they need to clean their grates of the million cigarette butts, and I know they can't do anything about the view, but looking out the windows at breakfast all you see are the garbage cans.

Room Tip: If you're a single person, you will get a single bed against the wall, so if you want more room...

We only stayed one night - but found the hotel to be a perfect location. Near enough to the centre for a nice range of restaurants - and near enough to the station for ongoing travel. The bedroom was comfortable with a good bathroom. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes as well as the mouth!
Next time we're in Stuttgart there is no question we would stay there again.

Just one minute walking to main railway station...İt is also so close to shopping and eating:)) districts. The room was so pretty and clean. There is a lovely table and chairs at the balcony which is surrounded by flowerpots of big plants..That feels you like sitting in the garden floor of a villa:)
The breakfast is so satisfying...Just stayed 1 day and liked so much...

The hotel is in walking distance to the main railway station and shopping district. The Breakfast und bar areas are well appointed und the food offer is good. The staff was friendly, but there German was spoken with a heavy accent from their country of origin - which was difficult to uderstand at times.

Comfortable rooms, garage and good breakfast. All of that in the heart of Stuttgart. The hotel is locate nearby the main train station, all the most important shops are just in the corner as also very good restaurants. The schlossplatz is reachable after 5min walk.

Been a few times a pretty good breakfast can be a bit hot during the Summer. The breakfast is very German cold meat and bread but the fresh fruit always pretty good and you can request eggs of your choice. Easy to get to from the train station walk past the excellent steak house The Brock Haus across the road from the railway station and then turn right and it is opposite the local radio station. Last time we were there they were filming but the film crew were very polite about us walking past. It has those automatic shoe polishing machines on each floor which is nice and you can put a bit of a shine on your shoes whilst you are waiting for a fairly rapid lift. The bar man is a nice guy he was telling us that the locals do not understand the concept of tipping. Stuttgart can be pricey especially when there are shows on at the conference centre and this place is always clean and functional and they have always been expecting us when we rock up.

Room Tip: need air con in the summer

We chose this hotel for its great location . Room was large but badly designed. The powerpoint and light switch was located behind the pillow so every push on the pillow or turning at night accidentally switches the light on. I woke up every time with a bright light on:-(. Also make sure that you ask for a room in the courtyard because on the other side of the street there is a bar that goes on with VERY LOUD music until well after midnight . The sound proofing of the room is not enough to dull the racket.
The hotel also advertises wired Internet in the room which in our case did not work and free wifi in the public areas which did not exist.
What made the stay much better was the very helpful and pleasant reception staff. Thank you to all:-)

Room Tip: Choose a room towards the courtyard .
