“City-centre Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

What I like most about this hotel is its location. We stayed there in early December and my family had the joy of exploring the Christmas Market by just walking around the corner. Other than that, the hotel is quite average. We stayed in room 318 where the air-con did not seem to be working properly. The room is non-smoking but the corridor had an unpleasant tobacco smell. There is complimentary coffee/tea-making facilities in the room but no safe. Shower is in the bathtub which makes showering a challenge. Toiletries is in the form of Lux shower gel cum shampoo dispenser. For a hotel of this category, it is a shame that there is no free wifi. The small gym consisting of one treadmill, one elliptical machine and one bicycle with no free weights (opening hours 6.30am - 10pm) is located within the premises of the indoor pool, steam, sauna (entry via room key card). The water of the pool is lukewarm, not warm which is surprising because when one enters the area, it is so warm and stuffy that one automatically assumes the water is heated. Breakfast spread is adequate and has the standard continental selection of food. Food at the hotel cafe is quite good.

This hotel is in a great location and makes it so easy to get around Mannheim. The bar and restaurant were great and the rooms very spacious. The staff were friendly and offered some great suggestions on what to see and do around the town.

Overall definitely worth staying here.

Lets start with the positive. The rooms are spacious and have nice beds. The location is central and you can walk to good shopping and restaurants. The main train station is about a kilometer away. The breakfast was very good and the help there was nice and attentive.

The downside. $7 ($14 for a day) for an hour of internet is ridiculous in this age. A Motel 6 in the States gives it for free. The reception is on the second floor and the escalator was broken every day. The construction of the hotel is strange as you have to take an elevator up or walk up a flight of stairs to get to the main bank of elevators. Not a big thing, but just one more hassle when you are trying to negotiate to your room with bags after a long trip. I turned on the bath and was sprayed by the shower head (it was broken and could not switch from bath to shower). Last but not least is the narrowest parking ramp in the entire city of Mannheim (and I have been in many). Anything larger than a VW beetle will have a major problem trying to negotiate the ramps and parking stalls. It is hard to imagine that it could be any tighter. My hosts scraped their new Audi on one of the ramp walls.

Room Tip: Rooms can be considerably cheaper on the weekends. Check them out.

I found this to be a very good hotel in the centre of Mannheim, convenient for the station. The bedroom was good, and everything I needed was provided, including a bathtub in addition to a shower. The only thing missing in the room was safe (at least I never found one). The hotel lacked any real character, and you could have been staying at any good hotel anywhere in the world and not known the difference! I was down early to breakfast, due to transport connections, and an excellent breakfast bar was available with anything anybody could need, I would think. As I was fairly late in arriving on the night I was staying, I availed myself of room service for my evening meal, which was prompt, and the food hot and of a good quality and presentation.

Could do with some improvements.
Removing mould from shower wall grout for a start. The walls are far too thin, can hear all happenings in corridor and adjoining rooms.
Beds and room were spacious and comfortable though.
Wifi (even paid) was not a service, may want to be more up to date there.
All up, an average stay.

This hotel is conveniently located, walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and transportation. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts quite good. The room size was adequate, although the beds were a little hard, and like other reviewers stated very warm. The garden view rooms are 15 E more, but I'm thinking worth the price. Our room faced the street and throughout the night we heard yelling, laughter, and loud noises from the people on the streets. One night (4 am) there was loud screaming, we thought someone was being hurt, but it turned out to be a group of people having fun???? Did not have one good nights sleep the whole week. Would stay there again, but would pay extra for the garden view room.
