“great, typical european hotel”

smallish rooms, comfortable, good breakfast, 12 euros/day parking, clean, near everything, goofy internet policy.. you get 5 hours free.. which means that if you start in the evening you need to remember to log out overnight cos if you dont you wont have time in the am..

I have stayed at the Steigenberger several times on business over the last 3 years. It is well located near the wasserturm. It has more style and a space that many of the other 4 star hotels in Mannheim but this can reflect in the price. The breakfast is good but can get crowded. The reception staff invariable give a warm welcome. The suites are spacious.

Spacious room with plenty of storage space and big bathroom. Centrally located especially to Opera and Arts Museum and shopping and lots of bars and restaurants. The only negative point was the cleanliness of the bathroom... Overall very happy. Staff are very friendly, helpful, informed and professional (big plus!). Pleasant ambiente, good breakfast (despite booked out hotel) and nice-price deal for families (we were 2 adults and 2 kids).

As surely many business guests must also do, we timed our arrival late on a Sunday afternoon, intending to get a good night's rest after enjoying a somewhat early dinner, & be ready to start business the next day...
The immediate weakness of the hotel apparently saving money by only having ONE person at reception on a Sunday was proved later in the week when THREE people could be observed on duty all the time, except late at night--which is fine..
That this single person we encountered is in the wrong job became evident when this harassed Miss Acid-Drop curtly attempted to deal with the hotel's booking system not having correctly recorded the change to our original reservation. INSISTING we were wrong(!!) then immediately backtracking (WITHOUT APOLOGY) when proved wrong..she did an INSTANT upgrade but added the fiercely stern warning not to ever expect this room type for our rate again..thus cancelling any feeling one might have had of being looked after properly! Or the hotel acknowledging IT was in the wrong!

Yes the unusually high-ceilinged room did SEEM nice upon 1st appraisal. But too many little things discovered later combined to raise the irritation level to one of near total dissatisfaction across the board. The bathing awkwardly contrived > water spills too easily onto the floor it issuing from a hopelessly incorrect position in relation to the narrow bath (no shower stall regrettably).! Add inadequate towel rails, lighting silly with one's face in total shadow, room lighting nutty & stupid (old) furniture made the frig access crazy/difficult & if the wardrobe was open nearly half the doorway to the bathroom meant access was denied for the other person in the room!

NO entertainment on the (too-small & badly positioned ) TV in English (2 news channels only) is not uncommon in Europe & THAT frustration only added grist to the mill!

Our dinner in-house was marred by a similar staffing problem. AGAIN here was the same service situation as upon arrival>only one person waiting on table for the whole restaurant. BUT our waiter tried hard to please, it must be said. Despite advertising closing at 10 30pm...the unoccupied tables were being stripped (WHILE ONE WAS EATING!) only a little after 8pm---in anticipation of laying out breakfast, no doubt. This was off-putting & gave on the distinct impression of not being welcome to continue enjoying the good cooking...which was in itself the only saving grace of the first-stay day. Later rudeness was experienced with Ms AD, but all her colleagues were of a distinct class above her offhand manner, it bordering on the offensive at all times. Further dining with adequate staffing of a high calibre righted the lack-lustre service initially found in Franke...the excellent in-house restaurant.

Positioned excellently, this former hospital enjoys an interior elegantly presented & the public areas well appointed in a pseudo-African motif adding some interest to an undistinguished but spacious fitout. What looks like an excellent central courtyard was closed for the winter,but dramatically lit at night. Sadly the attractive adjacent bar was dominated by a HUGE TV that reduced the ambience of the whole scene.
I would only return if nothing better could be located nearby..& we WILL feel obliged to seek that. What a pity--it has much promise, but doesn't deliver.!

We recently stayed overnight at this hotel and found it clean, modern, and excellently priced. There is a parking garage attached to the hotel and it is easy to walk from the hotel to the heart of Mannheim (and the Starbucks!). We did not add on any services as we thought the breakfast (22EUR) and wifi (5 EUR for one hour) were a little steep for our travelling budget. Beds were comfortable, shower was excellent (though I wish it had a tub, too), and room was spacious.

This hotel is very comfortable and I would gladly stay here for extended periods of time when travelling on business. I should say that, for me, it is more of a business hotel than somewhere for personal trips or holidays - but then I'm not sure why you would be in Mannheim for holiday.

DECOR is thoughtfully done throughout with modern touches, open spaces and black and white photography throughout the downstairs.

The STAFF here are helpful and friendly. They happily provides maps, directions, order taxis, easy check-in and check-out services.

BREAKFAST is quite good with lots of options for both cold and hot choices including fruit, juices, cereals, cold cuts, eggs, bacon, meatballs, sausages etc. The breakfast area is also quite large with decent space between tables which sounds like an odd observation but it means that during busy breakfast service times, you don't feel like you're being herded like cattle during feed. This is something all too familiar in other hotels where the palpable desire to turn tables is all too apparent.

ROOMS are spacious enough for one person travelling on business. The layout is quite good for work too with decent internet connection speeds (note some reviews here suggest this is inconsistent). The showers are hot and the rooms are clean. The sleep quality is quite good too despite having a large window which faced onto the street.

GYM - At 7am there was no one here. If you are serious gym enthusiast then there is enough here for you to be getting on with for a short business trip. The treadmill was not working when I was there but there is also a bike and plenty of space to do any other CV work should you wish. The weights are decent but I couldn't see what the total weight was for each dumbbell so it was a bit of guess work. There is also a pull up and cables machine too which is always appreciated.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from Mannheim main train station which is useful for getting in and out of town.

I would gladly stay here again and recommend it to anyone else looking to stay in Mannheim on business.

I thorougly enjoyed my stay at this Steigenberger Hotel in Mannheim. I found staff very helpful and professional. Room was spotless clean and nicely decorated. Food and Service at the Restaurant very nice. Now they have w-lan for free. Whart can I say ... I will be back! Thank you !
