“Nice location but food is just okay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

We went to lunch here with some friends on a Sunday afternoon. The weather was nice, so we sat outside. The inside looked interesting with its huge vats of beer--maybe we should have eaten inside. The area is lovely--on a sidestreet between the church in the Marktplatz and the tower gate of the old bridge. We had nice (partial) views of each. The service was only okay--we waited quite awhile, and people seated after us were served food before us. The food was decent but not great. I think what sets this place apart is its beer selection. They evidently have a beer that's world-renowned. Should have tried that!

“Taste of Germany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012 via mobile

Vetters is one of the most quintessential, old-fashioned 'German' restaurants in Heidelberg. So much is offered from their handcrafted beer to traditional meals, not to mention the pretzels. Perfect for an evening out with friends (1liter beers) or family!

“Good beer, passable food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

This place is famous for being a micro-brewery. The beer was good, but not noticeably different from other German beers. The food was typical pub grub - apart from the very salty sauté potatoes it was satisfying enough.

“Authentic beer hall in Heidelberg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

We were in Heidelberg for a few hours during a long layover at Frankfort Airport, so we had only one chance to get the best German beer hall experience we could. I think we made the right choice. The beer was great and it was easy to sample all the varieties. Also, the food was surprisingly good. We had a huge cheese plate, but the real surprise was the Vetter`s Feuerpfanne – Scharf, which was a spicy pasta with vegetables and was excellent. (We're not big meat eaters.) The service was maybe a bit slow, but very friendly and helpful, so really no complaints. If you have a few hours in Heidelberg, you would do well to stop here. Nice location by the Alte Brücke too.
