“Worth a quick peek”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

This is a 5 minute type deal, but kind of neat to see the walls of the rooms covered with the graffiti of the students who spent time here for illegal fencing duels, carousing, and such. Worth the few euro entry fee.

“An unique legacy left by the students on the history of University of Heidelberg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

This was a place where University authority used, between 1778 until 1914, to punish and detain the University students who violated the university rules such as Kavaliersdelikte; the minor transgressions. The length of stays could be read from the graffiti that documented by the jailed students. Writing the graffiti on the wall was sort of their ways to vent and to pass time while being confined. Students still permitted to attend their classes. The jailed students left their graffiti messages and paintings on the prison walls permanently and immortalized themselves for the confinements. This place is being carefully preserved so the future generations could enjoy and witness the mischiefs their ancestors had done as the students.

“Apprehensively Amusing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Having been a bit naughty myself during school years, the thought of been outcast here was frightening and may have acted as a deterrent. Definitely a few ghosts here and worthy of the modest entrance fee. the fee includes entrance to the nearby museum as well. Both destinations take about an hour. Very nice people at the museum.

“Great Gift shop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

The very small, somewhat hard to find student jail houses a small university centered gift shop with some fun things and a very friendly and helpful staff person. It makes a great photo and a fun quick stop.

“a piece of history to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

we visited the old university and were told about the jail which was around the block. We went and visited it and it does not take long to visit. Rather interesting custom of the university having its own justice system
