“nice little surpise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2008

Arrived in Heidelberg without a reservation and while turing downtown went to the tourist office. inquired about a room downtown and called this place. arrived and was allowed to park right next to the hotel and not on the street which was very nice since it was adjacent to main strasse and the university. decided to accept a room in the back that had a shared bathroom to reduce cost. Very nice big bathroom and fortunately for us no other guests using the rooms sharing the bathroom. It was a rather warm period while we were there and with only an open window it was warm in the room but being the end of may it cool down in the evening. The hotel was Very convenient to the main strasse, one block away to all the shopping and restaurants. The lady running the place was very pleasant and help upon arriving and leaving. The breakfast was very enjoyable and plentiful. i would recommend this location and place to stay as a convenient place if exploring Heidelberg.

Very good location, spacious, comfortable, nicely furnished rooms, sweet elderly woman about four foot six high running it, excellent coffee and breakfast, tiny but very clean shiny bathroom. Some late night revellers broke our sleep but that could happen in any street in Heidelberg on a Friday night, I suspect, as it is a university town and therefore there are lots of young people about.

  • Liked — Breakfast and comfortable rooms
  • Disliked — They like you ideally to be there by 6 pm which puts the pressure on if you are delayed

The tourism office in Heidelberg recommended this hotel and we are so glad we went! The hotel is in the heart of the old city center, but just off the main strip, so there is absolutely no noise. The hotel is fresh and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is very pleasant, and you can't beat the rates! Ask for a room with a castle-view if you go.

Terrific location at a reasonable price. Small but immaculate room. Very quaint. The proprietor is very nice and accommodating. She let us store our luggage there until 8:00pm so that we could spend another whole day in the old city.

Overall, we loved Heidelberg and would say in that hotel again (but we did not have a street-side room so it was very quiet). There was an elevator, contrary to another review.

As for the breakfast was good but not outstanding though again, everything was immaculate.

We've stayed at Hotel Zum Pfalzgrafen on two different trips to Heidelberg. We've always had a wonderful stay. It's so close to the Hauptstrasse and Schloss. Staying on the streetside has not been a problem, perhaps because it was fall, and we did not have the windows open. Breakfast is above average, and the proprietor is sweet.

Lovely hotel, very centrally located and convenient to sights and shopping in the tourist area, BUT don't get a room facing the street. The students were frequenting a LOUD dance club a few doors down, and were drunk and yelling all night. The pumping technobass stopped at 3am, but the loud drunk students kept it up until past 4am. The hotel is really lovely with very nice, friendly proprietors, so please consider it--just not on the street side!

We stayed there for 3 nights in 1997 and it was a great experience. The staff was very helpful and hospitable. Our flight was delayed for half a day, so we arrived late, and the lady that runs the hotel was very understanding and even worried about us.

The bathroom is a little bit small, and there's no elevator (and a lot of stairs), but other than that, it's a great place. Right on the middle of the old town.
