“Excellent hotel at a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

We stayed twice at this hotel in the last year and enjoyed both stays thoroughly. The rooms are well kept, the hostess is very friendly and the breakfast is great. Location wise, it is slap bang in the middle of Triberg's main road and at walking distance to most attractions and shops.

Clean and comfortable although a little run down and in need of refurbishment. The owner spoke excellent English and she was very helpful - don't forget to get your free ticket for the waterfalls! Car park was reasonably priced and close by. We had a room at the back of the building and you can hear the river which was nice. Breakfast was good with a range of typical continental cheese and cold meats.

The lady who owns and manages the hotel was quite helpful and speaks good english (which is an advantage in Triberg). Staying at the hotel qualifies you for a city card (which gives free access to the waterfall and free access to the "Schwarzwaldbahn" i.e public transportation in the black forest area. We found the hotel through reviews on Tripadvisor but we were disappointed really by the location of the hotel and the quality of the rooms. The furnishing badly needs an upgrade although bed lined was clean and running, warm water is available at all times. There is a new club opposite the hotel and next to the "Rathaus" (the Town Centre) which is noisy with partying late at night. Unlikely to return either to this hotel or to Triberg..

Room Tip: Double beds have a nicer view and do not face the main street which is noisy at night..

The hotel felt very homely. Breakfast was great. The breakfast room had a view of the mountains. Room was spacious with a balcony. There was no hot water boiler in the room but was provided upon request. The lift is small and old. We would have taken the stairs if there was one. The clock sounds from 7.30am and every 15 minutes after till about 9pm. The Triberg waterfall is a 5-min uphill walk from the hotel. The hotel is a 15-min uphill walk from the Triberg train station, or you can take a bus from the station (there is only 1 bus). There are many restaurants in the area. The blackforest cake at shop #33 is huge and to die for!

This little hotel is not for the upper-class grand tourist. It is for us homely people who still appreciate the value of hospitality and kindness. The lady in charge made us feel at home and we really felt that we were welcome. The room was nothing spectacular, but was clean and neat. The breakfast was good and we even had boiled eggs (for the first time in a German hotel).

Thanks to other reviews we were able to find this "hidden" hotel with no difficulties. Looking for the bank was the key to finding the hotel sign. Hotel is not on first floorn- you have to go up the elevator or stairs to get to reception. Staying here gave us free entrance to Triberg waterfall (highest in Germany) as well as free bus pass back to the train station the next day. Room was clean as was the bathroom, both I thought slightly large by European standards. Yes, towels are very scratchy, but that is the only negative thing I can say about my stay here. Breakfast choices were standard German fare, but a variety of choices, dining area was very attractive. Owner was very nice as well a helpful in answering questions. Our lack of the German language was not a problem. Honesty fridge was nice, especially after returning from hiking up (and up and up...) to see the waterfall. Bottled water was always mineral water though, something I did not expect. No frills, no internet, but nice, clean place to stay in a good area of town.

Room Tip: Don't think you could go wrong with any of the rooms. We were on the street facing town, the ba...

Reception was great, very helpful info on free carparking, free entrance to Waterfalls & bus fare to the Worlds biggest Cookoo Clock.
Rooms were very clean, but do agree towels a bit scratchy.
Honesty fridge in reception with water, soft drinks & beer.
Recommended 2 great eaterery's.
Had a front room with balcony over looking the town, which is busy, the back rooms over look the river which althought nice might be noisy all night?
Breakfast not til 8.00? but was very good with plenty of choice's.

Room Tip: As above, we had the front with the church bells.
