Upon arrival at the hotel, we were struck by the beauty of the front- it is 100 years old, and, supposedly, had been renovated recently. 88 degrees outside- no air conditioning, which the management claims is not needed more than a one week a year. To make it worse- no fans- not even in the dining room.
The room, supposedly a superior one, was tiny. There were two beds. At 5’7’’, 130 lbs. I am not a big person, but I found the bed short and narrow. Shower water- good pressure but had to run the shower around 10 minutes to get hot water.
On the third day, temps dropped to the 50’s with upper 40’s at night. I turned on the radiator heat- nothing happened. When I called the front desk, I was told that the heat is not turned on yet as “it is still summer…” They go by the calendar, not by the weather…still “just following orders…”
The dining room looks great, but- bad news and good news; the taste of the food was bad. The good news- small quantities…And you have to decide which entrée you would like (out of 3 alternatives) the night before… A lady at our table gagged and spitted out the first bite of her fish- it stank like a rotten fish. Seems like the chef has defective olfactory glands. The wait staff was hit or miss; some were great, others did not seem very attentive.
Breakfast buffet had many choices but was not restocked frequently.
Front desk staff was very helpful.
To me it seemed that had the owners cut any more corners, this hotel would be round. They claim 4 star superior. I believe it should be 1 star inferior.
Pros: Location and beautiful front.
Cons: Everything else.
