“Intimate Hotel with a Fantastic Spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed here on a quick hiking and biking trip down to the Black Forest and really enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and nice with a lovely little deck overlooking a large field and some horses. After they lent us 2 bikes for 3 or so hours at no charge, they turned on the sauna for us warm up from the rain. The sauna was very new with two nice showers, an infrared sauna, a traditional sauna and some seats for relaxing. We were the only people in there for about an hour. If you want to really relax and have more time than we did, you can use the spa at the hotel next door or rent the whirlpool tub in the Landhaus Karin. The breakfast was good - pretty standard continental. We went to the hotel next door (Grüner Wald) for dinner - it was pricey but good food.

Stayed here with the family (wife, two young kids and me) for a couple of nights in December when the Freudenstadt Christmas market was on.

We really liked this hotel. It's fairly small and felt intimate, although this might be because we were practically the only guests. The staff at reception and on breakfast duty are the owners, and they were welcoming but discreet. The room - we asked for a family room and in fact got two rooms joined together - was great; spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable. Bathroom not the most modern but in keeping with the rustic style of the hotel. Breakfast was delightful - good choice of self-service things including some lovely fresh breads. It's not the most upmarket hotel, but for the price (less than EUR 100 per night for the four of us) we felt it was good value.

Only drawback is that the hotel is not in Freudenstadt per se, but in a little holiday village a couple of miles away called Lauterbad. On the plus side, hotel guests can use public transport for free in the Black Forest area (paid for by the nightly tourist tax) and there is a bus stop only a couple of minutes' walk away, and it's a very peaceful location. But it is not really walkable to the town centre.

Overall, charming family-owned hotel with good service, clean rooms and reasonable prices. I suspect we'll be going back there sometime.

Stayed in Landhaus Karin for a six night getway over New Year 2011. Hotel was just what we were looking for, peaceful and relaxing. Our spacious twin room was in the newer section of the building. Breakfast was a pleasant continental buffet. Staff were very helpful.

We were visiting the Black Forest to see a bit of country side and talk a few walks. There are some nice 5-10km paths that can be taken from the hotel doorstep. Nearby town Freudenstadt is about 45 mins walk via woodland paths (or 5 mins by bus or car), for kaffee und kutchen, shops and train station. Location was good for trips to Barden Barden and Freiburg.

Very pleased with this hotel, nice place and great service.
