“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

We returned to this hotel when visiting our son who was spending his semester in Freiburg, after staying here three years prior. Our room was perfect--- spotlessly clean, comfortable bed and recently renovated. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. We took advantage of the delicious buffet breakfast each morning, which was included in our stay. The location of the hotel is perfect. It is located in a charming part of the city within walking distance of many restaurants and shops. There is a tram stop around the corner and a tram tickets are included with your room-- very convenient. The price was very reasonable.

This hotel is a great place to stay in Freiburg. It's close to Freiburg Münster church and Konviktstrasse (a charming and picturesque street). The room was modern, but still cozy. My only complaint with the room was the shower, which frequently flooded the bathroom. The restaurant attached to the hotel has your typical German food for a good price. This is also where they serve breakfast, which was an average buffet. They give you a transportation card for the street cars as well, which comes in very handy. I would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I stayed in the well-located Schwarzwaelder Hof Hotel in Freiburg for 6 nights in September 2013.

Everything was perfect – there was a new very comfortable bed, and the room was immaculately clean and newly-decorated, with a new bathroom and shower.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful,

The hotel is excellently located, in the old town and very close to the old cathedral and the best parts of Freiburg. It is 2 minutes walk from the tram stop, and very close to the walking trails to the Schlossberg.

The one great surprise was that the food in the hotel restaurant was the best we had in our entire Black Forest trip of 11 nights.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on 2 nights and both times we were extremely impressed with the high quality of the food – the ingredients were first class quality and extremely fresh and wholesome. We found it to be so much better than some of the other restaurants which have higher ratings on TripAdvisor.

There are lots of other nice restaurants and wine bars close by also.

There is free Wi-Fi in the hotel but the range did not stretch to the restaurant, which is probably a good idea from the point of view of being sociable!

Overall, we were extremely impressed and we will stay there again for sure.

The genial owner looked surprised as I arrived here for my 4th stay - his booking system had not recorded my communication to him. But the room I always have was available, luckily, and I had a completely happy time here. His brother's restaurant, in the annexe building (where my room is) is also worth a visit - the apple cocktail dessert is fantastic! This hotel offers excellent value and a warm (if surprised) welcome.

The person at the reception desk at this hotel was not particularly friendly but the hotel is very well located behind the wonderful Freiburg munster. Our room was clean with a very comfortable bed but it was very small, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was served in an impressive old room and was a fairly standard good German breakfast. Overall I would say that this hotel could do a bit better but it has some good points.

This hotel is located in a great area - located right in the heart of the old town, close to attraction and restaurants. The rooms were very clean and the staff was always helpful. Great breakfast in the morning. I would definitely stay here again. Wish I could have stayed longer.

I liked this hotel in that it was cosy, staff were friendly, the room was clean and there was a bar and restaurant downstairs (we didn't eat there). it was also in the old part of town where we wanted to spend our time. The problem was noise. We are used to silence, so maybe we were over-sensitive. We were there 2 nights and the first night we were listening to people "partying in the street" until well into the early morning. It also never occurred to us that the cobble stone streets were as noisy as they were - tires running over these make an incredible rumbling noise. The second night the boisterous people were not to be seen; but it was a Monday evening.

Room Tip: Rooms over the street are noisy....try to get rooms over the ally...will not be as noisy.
