“The best Indian food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2011

During our recent visit to Baden Baden in May we were looking for a place to have dinner and accidentally came across Namaskaar. All tables were either full or reserved but we sat and ate at the bar.

Let me just say the food is the best Indian food we've ever had and we eat Indian food often. All the dishes we ordered were excellent but in particular the Gosht do Piaza which is Baby lamb fried with fresh ginger, chillies and onions. Absolutely fantastic!!
Some people complain the service was bad but for it was the opposite. We got to talk to the owner and the waitress which were both very nice.
The owner can be a little cocky to some people but we thought he was very nice and funny.
In our future trips I would definitely stop in Baden Baden just to enjoy a relaxing day at the spas and dinner at Namaskaar.

“Authentic and tasty but beware of the waiter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2011

After arriving in Baden-Baden we sought out this place based on the reviews I saw on TripAdvisor. It is not that easy to find but we did manage to find it. Althought it was not advertised, I asked if they had a lunch special which they do daily, for a very good price of 8.50 (euros) which includes one of the main dishes and a side salad. We ordered a chicken tikka masala and a lamb rogan josh as well as a side order of naan. The food arrived within a short time and my husband made the mistake of mentioning that we had also ordered naan bread. The waiter stood up and glared at him and in perfect English said that he did not hide food in his pockets, only had two hands and that we should "relax". Lucky my dad wasn't there because I think that waiter would be missing a few teeth, however my husband is very good natured and simply smiled and sheepishly said he didn't want him to forget, that's all. He still went on to rant that all the food was fresh and he would bring it in a minute, which he did. Now to get to the food. The chicken tikka masala was a bit disappointing. It was very very red (I wondered if perhaps they had not used some food colouring as I have never seen it quite so red before and have eaten in many Indian restaurants). Also the texture was a bit strange. There was not enough spice in that one although we had asked for "mittelscharf" or medium hot. The rogan josh, however, was a delight and each morsel of meat was so tender that you only needed a fork to lightly cut through it and the sauce was thick and delicious. Not a drop was wasted. The naan was perfect in every way. The salad was a plain small mixed salad with a creamy yogurt dressing which had a tiny bit of curry in it which added a nice touch. In the end they forgot to charge us for the naan so perhaps that was intentional. In any case it is a really good deal for what you get and very tasty. Just don't annoy the waiter and trust me, it doesnt' take much!

“Liked it so much we went TWICE in three days!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2010

My husband and I were only in Baden Baden for a short time (3 days) during a recent European trip. We had seen the reviews for Namaskaar on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try, as it was within easy walking distance from our hotel. We expected it to be good but we were VERY suprised at how excellent it really was ... the food was as good as any we have ever had (even in India itself) and the service was prompt and friendly. The first night we went we were expecting a long wait to be seated because we hadn't made reservations and the room is quite small ... but we were immediately given a nice table in an otherwise full restuarant. Two nights later, in the pouring rain, we almost had the place to ourselves. That gave us a chance to talk with the owner Sandy, hear some of his most interesting history and share a mango schnapps with him. We would definitely go back again next time we are in the area. Highly recommend!

“The best Indian food I have had... ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2009

Namaskaar is a small, unassuming restaurant hidden in the old town of Baden-Baden. The size of the place just adds to its unique character, and the friendly owner and staff made for a very pleasant dining experience. The food itself was outstanding. We got recommendations from the owner himself of which menu items to try, and all were delicious!!!
