Once we found the Hotel/Chalet I was pleasantly surprised. Unofrtunately we spent 2 hours trying to find the place. Even Pierre Vacance the main booking agent have the wrong directions on their website. Our own tour operator low cost holidays had no idea where it was and since the road name doesn't come up on the sat nav we had to ask a lot of people. As it goes it is very well situated on the main Avenue de Olympic about 100-150 metres before the first roundabout on the left.

The appartments were clean and tidy and the staff very helpfull.

We stayed in a self catering apartment here in 2005. The apartments are small, some ridiculously so, but you probably get what you pay for. In theory it's great for kids, there's a pool table and a swimming pool. The kids are totally unsupervised in the swimming pool and in the winter they run riot around it throwing icy snowballs at each ohter in the water which can be quite dangerous. The pool table seems to be available for the kids to use but the grumpy barman often refuses to give them change to use it. All in all not a bad place to go for a family ski holiday - but.....

While we were there my six year old son fell from our first floor balcony to the concrete pool deck, not the hotel's fault but.......

Two or three of the guests helped, the fire brigade came, the police came, the local doctor came, the paramedics arrived and eventually a helicopter landed nearby. He was taken to Grenoble along with my wife where they stayed for three days before returning. Miraculously he was bruised but unharmed.

In all the time we were there not one single person from the hotel asked if he was OK, for all they knew he might have died, they just didn't give a hoot.

On the Friday they were due to return at about 2.00pm by taxi from Grenoble. The hotel policy is that you take your keys with you since reception is closed during the day. I had to collect my older son from ski-school so I asked that the hotel make sure that someone was on duty when they got back so that they could be given a key. Firstly they started to tell me that this was not possible and then changed their tune when I pointed out that it was my son about whom they hadn't even enquired. Despite this when my wife arrived back after three nights sleeping on a hospital floor and having not had a bath or a shower the reception was closed, there was no-one there and my wife and son had to sit and wait until we could get back off the mountain.

I booked my self catering accommodation, ski passes and ski hire through Erna Low and pieced together the travel myself, flights with flybe, transfers with the local bus company.

It was great to be able to work out the best deal for the family and not be tied to any packages. Thats why I love Erna Low as you are free to book as much or as little of your holiday with them with great advice for everything.

The residence was just what we expected, simple good standard apartments, in a great central location. It is a bit of a walk or a short bus ride to the lifts but its easy enough and caused no hassel for any of us. Then you have the night life close enough but not too close - a perfect combination.

The swimming pool was lovely and the bar and lounge area was a nice place to meet before heading out.

The hallways were a bit dingy but the apartments were lovely and reception staff very helpful.

I would recommend it to anyone wanting a good standard accommodation in a good location for a reasonable price in Val D'Isere.

Location of this hotel is wonderful, 3 minutes to town, 4 to the bars and 5 to the slopes. Did not try the food but the bar was very welcoming. Rooms are well appointed although the only reason this did not score higher is that the hot water heated up over night and whilst two of us stayed in a 3-4 person room, there was only enough hot water for a shared bath in the morning and the same again after skiing - this I was very unimpressed by. The option existed to use the showers by the pool but I found this rather annoying. So good location, helpful staff, good sized rooms, but need to ensure you have enough hot water.
