Traveelling from Italy to Portugal we ( my wife and me ) plannned some stops. The first is in This Hotel with a good standard tipicalof Accor group at different levels. Nice place quite, colse to a park very ejoyable. The room was large and confortabile, Trees in front of the windows. We did not need the air conditio nel in spite of the 35 degrees of the day.
The dinner was good the great salad of the day was rich and tasty as will as the tartare.

Wow - it was like stepping back in a time machine!

Not a bad little hotel if all you need is a clean room and bed for the night, but some areas and the rooms are very dated. It was very clean, but has had no modernising in some time.

The restaurant food was good, but the menu is very limited, and its quite pricey - think the main courses varied between 18 and 30 euros. Drinks in the bar also expensive - 9 euros for a pint of lager.

Breakfast was the usual continental offering, but again around 17 euros made it expensive.

I travel to this area on business from time to time, and to be honest there's not much choice of reasonable hotel, so the Mercure has a pretty captive audience and that's how they get away with charging over 100 euros a night for a hotel that really isn't worth that much.

I notice that one of the other reviews mentioned that the bathroom had been refurbished - this must only be in some rooms as each time I stay they all still look the same - very brown!

On a positive note the staff are always polite and helpful, and it is always quiet, so you get a good nights sleep

We were surprised the Mercure was this pricey for an out of the way location like this, but the room was very nice, clean and comfortable. No complaints at all about the room or the service. Didn't eat breakfast because it was too expensive.

The refurbishment in St. Etienne has really helped.- The bathrooms are now in an acceptabel level.

i wish it would be possible to have proper bacon and scrampled eggs, instead of the strange fluid being served today.

Except from this the a have no complaints.

The location of the hotel makes it difficult to find. I lost time to find it.
How can a hotel of this class have a failing card system ? My credit card was cancelled.
The food was great and waiters were top.

I stayed 1 night in this hotel by mid-July.

Very well located: just in front of a wonderful green area.
Not very well located: far away from the railway station. Not so convenient without a car.

Rooms are standard rooms of Mercure, service is good as well as cleanliness. Breakfast is very good, with a bio corner.

The first problem of this hotel is the rate: 123 Euros + 17,40 Euros for breakfast, this is definitely an expensive stay... in a city like Saint Etienne.

The second problem is that Mercure faces difficulty to identify very good international customers in their database.
