“Great staff and a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I'd have to agree with most of the previous reviewers regarding the great position of this hotel. It is really close to everything we wanted to see. We had a rental car and were able to park directly outside the hotel to take our bags up. We were given a card to the carpark which is under the Theatre at the end of the street. We found it easy parking (and very easy on exit) and the lift takes you all the way back up to the street just a short distance from the hotel.

We were in one of the front rooms - a theatre side room and though still tiny it was adequate for our needs. It was a bit noisy from trucks outside in the morning but we were in the centre of the city (with our windows open) so this was to be expected. I would urge the hotel management to look at replacing some of the bed linen which was rather worn and even torn in places. And those memory foam pillows!!!! I'm still not sure about those - they just felt hard to us. Other reviewers mentioned showers fluctuating between hot and cold but I didn't experience that at all during our stay although my husband mentioned it once.

Oriana and the other staff we met were extremely helpful and are, I believe, the hotel's greatest asset. They pointed out places to visit and where to eat. I was able to use one of their PCs to check-in and print boarding passes on their printer which really saved the day. It was a french keyboard but I like a challenge. I did comment to my husband that I wondered how many reception staff in Australia would willingly help like that or in fact would also serve you breakfast and wash up afterwards, all the time with a friendly word and smile. Not many I think.

Thanks to the staff for a good stay.

We were happy with the Hotel des Celestins but be aware that the hotel starts on the first floor. On arrival, you will need to press the intercom button for the ground floor entry to be opened (there is a lift once inside). Our room, on the Theatre side, was clean, comfortable and quiet, although on the small size and hanging space was limited. We stayed for four nights and if staying for this length of time again, we would consider booking a larger room. A good breakfast was provided and the staff members were courteous and friendly and always willing to give assistance, when required. The hotel is in a good, convenient location for the Old Town, other sites and river cruises. The bus from Part-Dieu railway station stops not far from the hotel. We would stay at this hotel again.

We arrived in Lyon late 7.30 pm & were greeted by a lovely young lady who spoke fluent English. We had travelled from Perth so quite tired. Our room was a suite which was on the 3rd floor. It was huge tastefully furnished & when I looked out of the window there was a beautiful old theatre all lit up & a small town square. We asked where to go for a meal and she directed us to a buzzy area that was full of restaurants & people enjoying themselves. Only a 300 metre walk. The hotel is in the old part of Lyon and the area is quite lovely. We walked around for a while and were a little disappointed not to be staying longer. Breakfast was very good & overall a great way to start our holiday.

Room Tip: The suite was well worth having for the extra room.

This is a charming hotel with friendly, helpful staff ready to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It is close to the metro and easy walking distance to restaurants and a lot more. Our room was very small but that was reflected in the price so it was acceptable. Our room had shutters so the room could be dark for sleeping and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was nice. The one problem was that the shower water temperature fluctuated a lot, but that paled next to all the good things about this hotel.

This is a wonderfully charming vintage property in the best location in Lyon. You can walk everywhere and the hotel is in the middle of great shopping. We stayed three nights in the Magnolia Suite. Very clean and comfortable with plenty of room. Open the windows and enjoy the magnificent view of the ornate Lyon Theatre. Good restaurants are everywhere in Lyon and many within walking distance of the hotel. Laurent and his staff speak excellent English and are always helpful. The breakfast room is simple and the buffet is ample. We would definitely stay here again and found much to like about Lyon.

Room Tip: Only saw the two junior suites - would definitely pay up for these as the rooms are spacious and ver...

We stayed 4 nights in the magnolia suite on the top floor. The room was spacious and welcoming and suitable for our needs (2 adults and 1 child) with one kings size bed and a comfortable sofa bed. The location is terrific, and the staff are very efficient and friendly . We had a rental car and used the car park (which is located approx 100m away) and found it to be very convenient and not as troublesome as I have read others say in previous reviews. The reason I have only given 3 stars is for poor sleep quality. I found our bed to be hard and the pillows uncomfortable (they are memory foam so am sure others would like them - just not me) but usually this is not enough to bother me. Our main issue was the lack of sound proofing from the lift and stairwell. We heard every creek and ping from the elevator and every conversation and footstep of the guests on our floor outside our room. My daughter found it very disturbing and was unable to fall asleep until well after 11pm most nights when the lift and human traffic started to slow down. Such a shame, as in all other regards it is a great place, but my sleep deprivation saw me happy to leave.

We booked two rooms at Hotel Celestins and both couples found it to be a great location (check into location of parking before you get there, as traffic can be a bit hairy), and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Claire made our dinner reservations, and generally helped out. We would gladly recommend it.
