“Tiny rooms, cheating on the studio... Avoid!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Well, I won't be back! Pricey and small, the only advantage is the location, somewhat!
We had two rooms: the one in the hotel was tiny but fair enough. The other was a studio, just situated outside of the hotel (while reserving it was not said), where you could access by a dirty walled staircase with some not too clean waste bins. The studio was almost ok, but there was no minibar and no wifi (just a cable connection). There was an inscription on the back of the entry door I've realized only later that the room was not part of the hotels star category. This was not stipulated before either...
So, it's central location, they are polite, but the rooms are tiny and somewhat overpriced... Why should you come here? I won't!

Room Tip: Do not take a studio!

We checked in with a lovely young woman--Sophia, I believe. Absolutely helpful. The hotel is in an easy location not far from the central square. You can walk over the bridge and get easily to part of the old city with wonderful streets to roam and a funicular to ride.

We may have wound up in a single room by accident--since we were only there for two nights, it was okay. The room was SO tiny that if my husband put his coat on, I had to step into the bathroom! There was a queen bed with barely enough walking room on either side. We found it quite hysterically funny. Breakfast was passable. We had it one morning and skipped it the second morning and ate at a local cafe instead.

I don't think we would stay there again--we could probably opt for the Globe et Cecil. But this Best Western was okay.

My sister and I were visiting my student niece who lives in Lyon. When we arrived we were given a very warm welcome. We had asked for an extra bed to be put in the room so that we could all stay together. The camp bed they provided was comfortable, although only suitable for those under 5'3"! We did not dine at this hotel although you could buy breakfast if you wanted to. The room met our needs. It had a separate toilet, and a very modern en suite shower and sink. Strangely, the shower room only had an opaque glass sliding door between it and the bedroom and so you could easily see people getting changed. Good job we are family! The hotel staff were very friendly, spoke Englih and did their best to accommodate our requests. It is centrally located, great for restaurants, the big square, shops and transport. At night it was quite noisy, althougn we had a room at the back where we suspect there is a nightclub. We couldn't hear any music, just people leaving in the early hours. Would I stay here again? Yes I would. It wasn't hugely expensive, it was centrally located and clean with friendly hotel staff. Luxury? No. Suited our needs? Yes, without a doubt.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the ront of the hotel.

Although this hotel was a little hard to find, it was centrally located and only a 2 minute walk away from the nearest tourist bus tour stop, the most retaurants I've ever seen in one street, a great market, and the tour boat station.

The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly enough. The room was enough for our needs and was clean, modern and quiet. It had nice decor and also had working air-con, TV, and tea/coffee, wi-fi (signal not great) etc. It would have been good if it had a fridge considering the hot weather (for water, etc). One issue was the lack of an outside view from the window as it looked onto two walls and another room window, but then I didn't go to Lyon to look out the window at it. The other problem was that the adjacent room's window looked right into ours, which I often forgot about before then closing the curtain. Also, the toilet was in a separate (cupboard) beside the front door and away from the shower and sink, which became annoying (but bearable). The toilet closet often smelled slightly of urine when inside which wasn't very nice but we were only there two nights so I could live it.

I didn't have breakfast here as we became accustomed to a local french baking chain shop called 'Paul', which was a 5-10 minute walk away (worth the walk).

If I ever go back to Lyon and I hope to at some point, I will definitely consider this hotel due to its central location in the older part of Lyon as well as its extremely affordable and clean rooms.

Room Tip: If you want a view out of your window that doesn't include a wall or anyone elses hotel window t...

My first solo trip abroad and this hotel was perfect. The room was cozy, very comfortable and quiet. Excellent bed! The staff were lovely and engaging. Located in the midst of everything. Just steps from Vieux Lyon, great shopping and DOZENS of wonderful restaurants. You will find everything you need here and more.

I've stayed here at least 6 or 7 times, and have not yet been disappointed. Yes, the rooms are a bit on the small side, as some people have pointed out - but they are comfortable and clean, and perfectly functional. The best thing about this hotel is the location - just 5 minutes' walk from Place Bellecour, same for the main shopping street, and just a short stroll across the beautiful pedestrian bridge to the heart of the Old Town (Vielle Ville). It is here where you can spend hours wandering through the narrow back streets of the historic centre of Lyon, and in the evening can eat at one of the numerous restaurants - all of which are very reasonably priced (and remember you are in the gastronomic heart of the world, by some accounts!).
There are a couple of cafes/bars just outside the entrance of the hotel, and it is nice to sit here with a drink in the evening sun. There are also several more cafes along the banks of the river, just across the street. On Sunday morning, there is a typical French food market here too - something you should aim to get up early enough to enjoy (they start packing up and heading home before midday).
Some of the rooms in this hotel have been renovated, and the layout is a little bizarre. The shower is just behind a clear glass panel which opens out to the room - so if you're sharing, they can watch you shower. This is far from ideal, even for couples! The older rooms have a more conventional bathroom, and some have the toilet in a separate cubicle.
Breakfast is substantial, and typically French - lots of bread, pastries, yoghurts, cereal etc. - and it is also reasonably priced if not already included in your room rate.
Overall, you will find it difficult to find a better hotel for the same price in the same general area. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to use as a base to explore the city. If you plan on spending hours in your hotel room and require lots of comfortable space, then I would recommend you stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you are uncomfortable with the idea of anyone being able to watch you shower, be sure to ask for...
