“Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Stayed here for a family wedding last year. Great location right in the middle of old Lyon. Rooms are a little small but have good facilities and totally spotless. Staff were helpful and friendly enough and breakfast in the old school room was a real treat. Would certainly re-visit.

This hotel is really convenient for the lovely old town of Lyon unfortunately it is near to many bars and noisy at night. The hotel is quirky but the rooms are rather average for the price, staff were helpful when requests made. Did not have breakfasts but had coffee and croissants at nearby bakeries.

The hotel was nicely situated on the northern borders of Vieux Lyon. Staff were very accommodating and helping. Simon in particular was responsive to our request to have rooms close to one another and on a higher floor. Coming from a huge penthouse stay at Lux 11 in Berlin, I was a initially a little disappointed in the size of the rooms here. Simon handled my questions about room categories with the utmost professionalism. After settling in, we were quite happy with our room on the 7th (highest) floor with beautiful views over Vieux Lyon and the basilica on the hill. Thank you to Simon for your placing us in rooms next to one another and affording great views. We’ve been to France a number of times before and the rooms at College Hotel are standard size, particularly considering the ideal location of old town. Both rooms were very clean and comfortable. We prefer the stark white rooms and crisp sheets over the flowering stuff you may get in other Vieux Lyon hotels.
Room tips: 7th floor is the highest which translate to great views. We had rooms 703 (Troisième Cycle or largest category) and 704 (Deuxième Cycle or second largest). Truth be told, the size between the two was not hugely noticeable. The Troisieme does have two sets of windows which let in more light. The rooms ending in 05 are end/corner rooms and looks to be the largest based on floor map. Some rooms on lower floors have balconies. First floor rooms (second floor American) have patios with sitting areas that looks over the communal terrace. Nice outdoors space but sacrifice privacy and great views. Just preference.
We would definitely return and recommend this hotel. Thanks again to Simon for a nice stay.

Room Tip: 7th floor, rooms 703, 704, or 705 for great views. 6th floor, rooms 603 or 604 for great views with...

nice, tiny and comfortable hotel in the heart of Lyon! all furniture, accessories, colours , pictures, remind the class rooms and memories ! the rooms are little, all white coloured, but comfortable- the breakfast is just simple - it is in a very pedestrian area and also 10 mins walk from the Vieux Lyon!! The rate are not to cheap but it is worthwhile!

Room Tip: feeling to be in a classroom!!

Well situated on the Old Town side of the Saône, but just a bridge to cross towards almost every interesting venues of the Downtown, this hotel offers quite small, but nice, comfy rooms, furbished with old classroom furnitures. Old looking modern, very simple and very friendly. Highly recommended for a Lyon visit with reasonable price. Not luxury, but everything is there to please you.
If you like to have an unusual design hotel for your stay, this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Try to have rooms on upper levels, with nice views of the Saint Jean Basilica.

We found the College hotel to be perfect for our stay in Lyon. An old renovated school with consistent school-theme throughout (lobby, hallways, and rooms), the hotel is unique and quirky in the best possible way.

Rooms are bright and clean and have the expected amenities (hair dryer, tv) although not luxurious (don't expect spa-quality products). There's a fridge on every floor full of Fred water, soda and juice which is truly a lovely touch.

The rooms in the upper price range are spacious with sizable bathrooms (especially for Europe). Views from the 6 floor were great!

We opted to eat at one if the two boulangeries just around the corner. Both very good and we were happy to have a delicious pastry and hot drink for under 2 euros per person rather than pay 13+€ to eat at the hotel.

By the way, on Saturday night, they light up all the windows with changing colored lights. When you close the curtains, it blocks out the light for the most part, but not entirely. Didn't have any trouble sleeping though. Most importantly, the room was really quiet.

Would certainly stay here again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

I just spent a girls weekend at this hotel and only have good things to say about it. I never quite understood the decor but it was pretty neat. It was a mix between an old classroom, a hospital and the movie 'the shining'. The hotel has a very cool bar, terrace and is in a fabulous location for exploring old town and the shopping areas crossing the river. They were especially helpful with giving us restaurant recommendations and making reservations. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Lyon.
