It is an amusing idea - take a hotel and furnish it with old school memorabilia. Apart from the bedrooms which are tres chic. The reception desk is an old school vaulting horse - the reception area looks like a 50's senior common room. Just a delight. Fine terrace on the roof, excellent breakfast and a lovely touch - a fully stocked fridge on each floor with water and soft drinks for you to help yourself.
It is fun and the staff delightful. Only thing to be aware of is the lift - the buttons are arranged as on a phone - takes a few seconds to realise. There is parking and as it is in the old centre you can dump your car and walk or take one of the 4 metros, multiple trams or trolley buses to enjoy this lovely city.

The College Hotel in Lyon is very interesting indeed. Lots of old school stuff and the breakfast room is kitted out in school style; coffe is even served in a little flask. Great breakfast, lots of lovely bread and cheese, cooked meats etc. I saw somebody with boiled eggs but I didn't know how to ask for them in French and there weren's any on the serving table.

The only problem with the hotel was that the lift was out of order and I was on the 6th floor! I was promised the lift would be fixed the next day but it wasn't. Two days of walking up and down six floors was very arduous and I'm fairly fit. Also, because this was an old school, the steps were concrete and steep and the light turned itself off half way up so I had to fumble along in the dark until I got to the next level to hit the button to turn the light on again.

My room was clean with lovely bed linen and the bathroom massive with a corner bath. Big windows opening out to a view over the square below.

Apart from the lift problem, this was a good hotel, right in the heart of Lyon and close to many restaurants and pavement cafes. Everything in walking distance.

Good price for an excellent location in Lyon. The rooms were definitely minimal but loved the decor in the foyer and the free softdrinks on each floor. Definitely great for a short stay in Lyon as you're in the heart of the old town with plenty of restaurants just there. Front desk staff were helpful and parking was easy to book into.

We choosed this hotel because of its position, in the very historic old city centre well known thanks to Unesco.
Our room was nice and all white (very particular and minimal); it was on the third floor and it was supposed to be one of the widest of the entire structure.. well it was not really so wide..All in all cleanliness was quite good. Views from the rooms were great and inspiring: all over the building and the hill of the Vieux Lyon.
We did not have breakfast here since we considered it was quite expensive, but we can suggest you the bakery that is 20meters on the right of the exit... fantastic yummy bread and sweets...
Let me tell you that hotel's staff wasn't always so helpful and amenable (more smiling would have been suiting us to feel well accepted... ) One point less for this last reason.
