“A good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

This was an excellent choice for us as we had a fridge, microwave and two ring electric hob. This meant we self catered breakfast and a light evening meal. We ate out for lunches. We asked for a room away from the front and it was very quiet. It was a 5 minute walk to Perrache station and a tram ran along the road at the front, so it was very easy to get around the whole of Lyon. You can buy a carnet for the trains and trams at the Perrache Metro interchange. A 10 minute stroll to the right is a big new centre with hypermarket, shops and a good choice of modern restaurants.

The only rather odd thing was that you have to ask for the cupboard containing crockery and cutlery to be unlocked! We had been forewarned about no washing up things, so took a j cloth and tea towel and small container of liquid + salt and pepper. But worth it for the saving - breakfasts in the hotel were 10 euros per person, which equates to quite a few nice lunches!

The staff were smart and friendly and spoke perfectly good English. There are ATM's close by.
The a/c wasn't on but it wasn't hot enough at night to bother us,and because we put the shutters down, we left the window open for fresh air.

The beds were comfy and everything worked as it should. So long as you don't want a bar or other big hotel facilities, I recommend this as a modern, clean and convenient base.
The only thing I would say is that the area immediately round the station would be not very salubrious at night, as in any city really.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the inner courtyard if you prefer quiet. The view at the front overlooks...

We chose this hotel primarily because it had secure parking and the location seemed OK. On arrival we found the parking was very secure and everything else about the hotel was above expectations. It was clean, modern, the staff were very friendly and efficient, and the continental style breakfast was excellent. As for the location, it was absolutely fine. It was about a 15min walk into the centre of town- we found the best way was to walk towards the station then take the station escalators to cross the tracks to the lovely little square at the other side.If you don't like walking, there is a tram stop almost outside the hotel. (incidentally the tram in the other direction takes you to the new Confluence shopping centre where there are also lots of bars and restaurants).

I stayed at this hotel with 2 friends in a triple room. All beds were excellent, the room was impeccably clean and the staff was very helpful. My only problem with this hotel was its location. It isn't bad - it is located in the city center, about 10 min walk from a subway station (and the subway system in Lyon is excellent!). But it didn't have shops or good restaurants around. In any case, it's a good option for its price, and even worth the 10 extra Euros per person for breakfast - although it would be better with some hot items such as scrambled eggs.

Also, if you plan to get there by train, make sure you select your arrival and departure stations at Gare Lyon Perrache. The other one (Lyon Part Dieu) is located 2 subways away.

Arrived quite late at this hotel so didn't see much of Lyon. First time staying at Quality Suites hotel. It was well decorated with a small kitchenette which you would get more use of if staying for more than one night. Quite a big room and bathroom with a good view of the church across the road.
There is a shopping centre not far away.
Didn't have time to look for a restaurant nearby but there is a good take away pizza place a few doors away.
The packing area is not quite on site as stated in the confirmation but around the back of the hotel and you have to take two different lifts to get to the room

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

This is a nice, new hotel in the Confluence district which is still under revitalization. I stayed there six nights and would stay there again. The staff was excellent. They tried very hard to answer every need, although it wasn't always possible. They were very welcoming and friendly.

The room was somewhat larger than the average downtown European hotel. The lighting was a bit dim and there was no light over the desk. It was much too warm in the room although I had turned the heat all the way down. I had to open the window occasionally in spite of the fact that it was snowing and freezing out. The door did not have a peephole, nor did it have a privacy latch or chain.

The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. Like all European hotels, it had no top sheet - only that thing that I call a stuffed sheet (some sort of comforter), which is much too hot for me.

Although the closet was spacious, it had insufficient hangars for a six night stay. Additional hangers could not be provided because they rested in permanent hooks and there were no more hooks. They need to keep non-permanent hangars for guests who need more.

The shower was great. It had excellent water pressure, variable spray positions and was on a movable hose. However, there were no shelves or ledges in it so your soap, shampoo and other items had to be placed on the floor of the shower stall. The hair dryer was dismal. It didn't have much power and was inconvenient to use. It was attached to a hose which was uncomfortably hot against the arm.

The little kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave, sink and stovetop was a nice addition. It did not come equipped with cups, plates, utensils or pots so you could not use it unless you went to the store to buy these items.

Breakfast was nice. There was a good variety of fruit along with cereal, breads, meat and cheese. The coffee choices were very good, in my opinion.

Since the Monna Lisa restaurant is not listed for review, I will mention it here. It is two doors down from the hotel and we really enjoyed it. The Italian menu was quite extensive and reasonably priced. Although the menu is only in French, the staff helped us figure out what we needed to know. The food was fantastic and the people were great. They cheerfully accommodated vegetarians and someone allergic to nuts. We all went there at least twice during our stay. As with all French restaurants, the desserts were wonderful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the church, rather than another building.

The room was spacious enough for 2 people plus suitcases; was quite new (the towels still gave off a lot of fluff); bed was really comfortable; room was really warm which was nice considering it was between -3C to 3C outside at any given time; bathroom was really clean; studio had a sink and stove if you wanted to eat in the room (but lacked anything else so...maybe not AS useful); room cleaning services were decent (but could be better); location - just down the street from Perrache train station and opposite a lovely church that was lit up during the Festival of Lights.

Cons: some of the front desk staff - we came back to the hotel at around 3 A.M. one morning: a) the front door was locked and we had to stand in the cold because there was noone at the front desk, b) we were told that our room had been locked and he couldn't open the door under instructions from his superior. When asked what the problem was he said he didn't know, he was just following instructions, then told us he couldn't let us back into our room until he 'verified' the credit card, even though the hotel had already taken all the details and charged the card before. When pressed for an answer he told us that some people left through 'back doors' and didn't pay their bill (which completely didn't make sense since we were standing right there, all our stuff was in our room and they already charged the card). When we demanded an explanation from the superior the next morning, all she could say was that she hadn't instructed the guy to do that. Suffice to say that wasn't very helpful.

Walking distance from Perrache Station in Lyon, I was lucky to booked this hotel 2 days before the festival of lights weekend! I was there for only 2 nights, so I didn't really fully utilize the facilities provided in this studio like the stove and microwave. The room is of decent size - with a very high ceiling. The toilet was in a different room. The bathroom comes with a shower. I love the heater in the bathroom where I can hang my towels to keep them warm. There is free wifi which is great! The king size bed was really comfortable and clean. I had 2 great, quiet, peaceful sleep in Lyon.. The location is great as well, walking distance to the centre of everything (10 minutes to Bellecour) - I didn't even take the tram.
