“centrally located, smack downtown Lyon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Location! location! location! is crucial for a big city hotel and this one has got it.
Right outside the hotel was alfresco dining in a patio. There were several restaurants, a cafes, an Ice-cream parlor and a smoke shop. They stay open till the wee hours. Got to watch your steps though as servers scurry back and forth.

The Metro station is just round the corner. You walk everywhere down-town.

The room and hallways however could use some freshening up - some brighter color scheme, re-carpeting perhaps. The elevator was uncomfortably small. It felt claustrophobic if more than 2 persons get it. The Concierge was very attentive - offered me an umbrella as it rained.

Dear Mrs. K

Many thanks for your comment and share your experience!
We do some work painting in the hallways and doors to rooms.
As you saw the elevator had to adapt to the hotel.

We would be happy to see you again.

Kind regards from Lyon,
Julien Schruoffeneger, manager

This hotel was a great surprise, because we booked it on Trip Advisor from the Lyon train station. It was the first time we booked a hotel through this site, and we were doubtful that they'd even know we were arriving in 15 minutes. However, Isabel greeted us by name when we walked through the door. Our room had a perfect view of the cathedral on the mountain, and very quiet too. The location was amazing. Close to everything. Don't miss the secret passages through the Old City.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view.

The hotel is well placed, sandwiched between the Rhone and Saone Rivers so one could just about walk anywhere. However, hotel is not air-conditioned and we had to try to sleep with the windows opened. As it is within the tourist and restaurant belt and the national day weekend and Tour de France, it was very, very noisy at night with the roar of motor-bikes - so much so I had sleep with ear plugs. At our insistence, hotel graciously provided a fan. Do ask for a superior room which is what our friends booked and it had 3 windows - 2 for the room and 1 for the bathroom. We had only one window. But the staff were very helpful. And don't forget the picnic lunch they supply foc at request from reception.

Room Tip: try to get a corner room, or at least a superior room.

Dear guests,

thank you for your comment.

Our hotel is surely well located: at the center of all touristic's activities, shopping and cultural ( 5 to 8 minutes by walk) and between the majestic the big park rivers with bicycle and pedestrian shorelines toward the big park of Lyon.

We understand no air condition is unconfortable but we also propose fan and as you well underline the Superior rooms or double standard situated on the central courtyard side offer more calm.

Another part of our rooms is situated on the lovely "frenchy place" and offer a plendid view on our basilica.

We always stay helpful to let us a pleasant experience in our hotel.

Best Regards.
Karine.

Perfect Hotel at a good price for being in the absolute center of everything that is Lyon. The staff were most helpful in my many questions. I walked to everything. The staff told me all the "must see" places in Lyon. Parking is expensive. Everything was spotless. The breakfast was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Place Regaud is a very loud place on Saturday night. If you are going to be there on a weekend, ask...

Greatly situated in the heart of old lyon, it gives you great opportunity to visit tourist attractions most of which are at a walking distance from the hotel. Also public transportation hubs are conveniently located around.
Staff are all helpful and hospitable.
The rooms lack in room fridge and bar, but you can get water and snacks from the reception free of charge.

Great central location; charming and helpful staff; clean and pleasant facilities - and all at a great price. It was a pleasure to stay there for 3 nights: if you want something friendly and unpretentious within easy walking distance of many of Lyon's main attractions, I would warmly recommend this hotel.

This is a late review see below for reason.Situated in the centre this unpretentous hotel was one of the best hotels we have stayed in including several 5 star ones. Our room was spacious and had a very large and comfortable bed.The shower was hot and strong and everything worked. The breakfast menu was limited but good and after all if you are staying in Lyon you do not want to stuff yourself and miss a lunch or dinner! On the first morning I tripped and fell outside Monoprix and realised that I had broken my wrist. We walked back to the hotel where the receptionist Isabel was great rang for an ambulance and provided ice packs. Two hours later an ambulance turned up(no hurry then!) and I was taken off to hospital with blue light flashing.I draw a veil over the treatment just say I was glad to get back to the N.H.S. where I was operated on(plate and four pins) on the same day and home in the evening.Full marks to Frenchay Hospital Bristol for five star treatment.
If Isobel reads this her Father might be interested to know that the surgeon was female-very rare in orthopedics so I knew she must be good.
In spite of the accident we enjoyed the rest of our stay and it was nice that there were good eating places within about 50 yards of the hotel although my guess is that it is difficult to eat badly in Lyon but easy to eat well,

Room Tip: one of the best hotels we have stayed in

Dear Madame,

I am deeply pleased to hear from you. Thank you for your nice comment about your stay in Grand Hôtel de la Paix. I am glad you could enjoy it in spite of the “adversities”.

I hope your wrist is better now and not much painful. (I must say I was very surprised because you did not even complain once about the pain).

It was a pleasure for me and for my colleagues to welcome you in our hotel and we hope to see you back in Lyon soon.

Best regards,

Isabel
