Whilst this would be a good budget choice for an expensive city, the hotel was somewhat disappointing.

The rooms were clean and well-decorated but, the size of the bed made it difficult even for one person to manoeuvre around. The bed was also so high off the floor that it felt quite dangerous to get in and out, especially in the night.

I stayed in September but, the room was so hot that it became difficult to sleep, without the fan being kept on all night or having a window open, both of which were noisy. Having the lights on in rooms that were very darkly decorated, gave off even more heat.

The shower and toilet area were so small that the toilet extended into the shower area. It was like trying to shower in a vertical coffin and to use the toilet AFTER a shower, left one standing in water. Heaven help you if you dropped the toilet roll!

There was NO luggage space in the room and apart from two hooks and several coat hangers by the dressing table mirror, no clothes hanging space.

On the plus side, the staff were delightful and extremely helpful, speaking good English if needed. The hotel is also very close to tram, metro and railway stations, although after dark, I wouldn't have walked around the area by myself as a lone female traveller...

However, having stayed for an initial two nights at the start of my trip to France, I cancelled my booking for a further 3 nights at the end, as I couldn't face the thought of the airless room or the awful shower/toilet! I went and booked the Ibis next door, for Euros 20 less per night!

Hotel Victoria nestles in a quiet backstreet that is a few minutes' walk from Perrache station. Nearby Velo'v cycle stations and a tramway/metro stop provide easy access to the city. The hotel itself has character, with a nice, tavern-like reception and a quaint if cramped elevator. The interiors – a happy blending of homely and modern styles – reflect the restrained taste of the owners. The huge, elevated bed is inviting and takes up most of the room, but the tiny shower room has roughly the same area as a public toilet cubicle. There was no air conditioning but this was unnecessary for our mid-September stay. Another positive is that Brassiere Georges, a special Lyon eatery, is literally across the street. Good value for money.

Hotel Victoria is located next to Lyon Perrache station, and is very close to subway and tram lines. A great location especially if you're traveling by train in and out of Lyon (as we were). Everyone that we dealt with at reception was very kind and spoke perfect English. They were very helpful when we decided to extend our stay.

The room itself seemed recently renovated and was very nice and clean and comfortable. Nice flat screen TV, huge comfortable bed...there is not a lot of extra space because of the bed, but its still a decent sized room (especially for France). The only thing that I was disappointed with was the bathroom, which was new and clean but only slightly larger than an airplane bathroom.

Highly recommended!! Would definitely return if I'm ever in Lyon again.

Nice hotel reception (24/7) and nice room. Cosy room and elegant furniture at the fourth floor (lift). Wet-room style bathroom inside the room. Everything perfectly clean. Free wireless connection. Breakfast with tea, coffee, orange juice… baguette, croissant, butter and jam. Friendly staff. Perfect location, close to train, metro, tramway station Perrache, close to the city centre. Very good value for the money.
