I recently stayed here whilst at a conference in Lyon at the Centre de Congrès. It was either a €15 taxi fare or with public transport 2 tram trips away. It is right in the middle of a shopping area and was only a 10 minute walk to the Old Lyon area. The breakfast was great - scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes lyonnaise, breads, cold meats, cheeses, croissants and other French pastries, cereals and yoghurts. The coffee was ok but Starbucks is better! The restaurant across the road was good, although they dont speak very much Englis and the staff recommended some other good eating places. The staff are very helpful and spoke English which was great. My room was a good size on the second floor and I could even see the Rhone river. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Overall the Mecure Lyon Plaza Republique is a good hotel conveniently close to the Rhone river on the West side midway between Gare Part-Dieu and Gare de Perrache. Very close to Metro station Cordeliers, enormous amount of modern shops along the rue de Republique. We received good service from the front desk and housekeeping. The room was quite large for European standards, allowing 3 persons in a room. Large King size bed and a sofabed. The one window in the room opens and faces the outside staircase, thus no view. Room was quiet from the outside noise with the exception of the morning construction at the adjacent building. Did not utilize morning breakfast at 17.5 Euros per person. Just a warning, early breakfast in the area is limited to coffee, tea and pastries. If you are looking for cereal, juice, coffee, tea and pastries then I recommend the morning breakfast. I would stay at this hotel again if in the area.

This hotel is located in the heart of the city and is great for walking everywhere--to Vieux Lyon (old Lyon), to the museums on the new side and just about anywhere. The rooms are indeed small (but all rooms in Europe seem to be small). The hotel staff was most accommodating and made reservations for us and suggestions of good restaurants in the area. Internet is free, if annoying to connect and the signal in our room wasn't very strong. If you pay for your reservation ahead of time, you'll get a better rate--but it is non-refundable!
