Four of us stayed at the Mercure for 4 days and we all loved the hotel for its modern and comfortable style. The rooms are large with windows that actually open, a safe, fridge, chairs, table, huge bed (with beautiful, cool, soft linen), lots of mirrors and a 'rainforest' walk-in shower. The breakfast wasn't included in the very reasonable tariff but was worth the extra on the day as it was very good. The staff were extremely helpful, spoke good English and were happy to book restaurants, taxis and to give advice. The room-cleaning staff were polite and helpful and carefully tidied our toilietries in the bathroom. Would definitely recommend this hotel even though it is on the other side of the Rhone and in the business district as it was quiet and very easy to cross the bridges to the busier hub of Presqu'ile and the Vieux Ville.

We, my husband and I, stayed here for 3 nights in October 2012. First impressions - excellent. The reception staff were most welcoming, and bi-lingual, which was a relief! We had paid in advance, so they just took the card details for breakfasts, etc. The room was lovely, v. well decorated with a king-size bed, good-sized flat TV and well-equipped en suite shower. We went mad on the first night and ordered a bottle of wine from Room Service, it was very good and they were very quick to deliver. Found a fab 'Bouchon Lyonnais', Daniel et Denise, round the corner. The food was delicious and it was packed with French people. We ate there two nights running. Can't fault the room or staff at hotel. Breakfasts were slightly chaotic- we left our table to go and get some egg and bacon, and the staff cleared away our coffee, cutlery, napkins and juice?? Good selection of food tho, cereals, fruit, rolls, bread, yoghurts, ham, cheese, etc. Quite pricey at 17.50 euros each I thought. You have to eat a lot to get your money's worth. Apart from chaotic breakfast, the only other niggle I have is that the towels were quite not bath sheets, so were quite small. Neither of us is large, but even so it was a bit draughty! That is why I give it 4 stars, but I would stay there again without hesitation.

I stayed in this hotel for only 2 nights. It was nice and central in the town.
It was across the river from the main old town but it was still easy to get there and walking distance to the river for a nice river walk.
The rooms were nice and clean. it had its own bar and the good amenities. Choice of smoking room or non which is rare these days.
Staff were very helpful and friendly. Which for France i thought was a real bonus.

Stayed in a few Mercure hotels and sometime found them a bit dated, but not the Saxe Lafayette. The look and feel here is modern and fresh. Service levels were excellent, my only concern was on checking out took time to complete with only two staff on the front desk. Excellent for a weekend break. Close to the old part of the city, so there is no reason not to get your walking shoes on. Saturday morning market down by the river is a delightful way to spend sometime. Many restaurants and bar close by. Halle de Lyon is a culinary delight and only five minutes walk away from the hotel so there is no reason not to stand, or sit down and enjoy a good wine and some excellent food, oysters come to that and watch the world go by.
