We stayed here for 2 nights and we booked the "Privileged" room, so it was slightly larger. It was still a small room but we could navigate okay with 2 nights worth of luggage. The bathroom still had the traditional tub with the hose attachment, so for us "shower" folks, that was a bit of an adjustment. And yes, the elevator is TINY. We rarely used it. It fit two people or one person and a piece of luggage. The parking, being not accustomed to the area, was a bit of pain. We ended up parking in the nearby parking garage which cost us 60 euros for 2 days, but at least it was close. The room itself needed a bit of redecorating. Everything was gray and a little tired looking, but it was clean. The internet was 5 euros per hour or 10 euros for 3 hours, but the connection was the best we had in France. On the positive, the location was EXCELLENT. We had no trouble walking everywhere. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. The staff was very friendly. For a short stay, I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is indeed at a nice location near River with fanastic back side view (only when you get out of hotel and never from your room). As always in France, the rooms are very small. I was occupying a double bed room and was single person occupying the room. Still I kept on hitting my elbow and knee with furniture. The TV channels are only 5, all in french. On inquirng the receptionist said, english channels are not free, french channels are. The room heater was not working and it did not work for my stay of 8 days. Bath tub was too small. Lift can accomodate either you or your luggage. Choose this hotel, if you want a place for sleeping at night. Nothing more from here.

Staff, service and location was fine. Small room, but lovely light. Lumpy old bed, limited breakfast but not bad for France. Good value. Strange idosyncrasy here of taking your key when you leave as the room keys have tassels on them which declare your room and the hotel name. But this is fine as staff buzz you into the lobby after hours.

We were only in Lyon for the last night of our stay in France and were glad we had booked at this hotel. It was so central to everything. We had dropped off our luggage at the hotel and took our rental car back to Avis at Part Dieu train station. We walked back from there. It was about a half hour walk. At the same time we got to explore the city.
The Hotel des Artistes is located on the Place Celestins just beside the theatre. It is a great neighbourhood with lots of upscale shops and plenty of restaurants close by. It is just across the river from the old town and in the evening you can see all the beautifully lit up buildings.
The hotel has a very small elevator, big enough for one person plus luggage or two people and no luggage. The rooms are not very big but clean, quiet, and comfortable enough. We booked via internet on the hotel site and got a good rate.
I just regret that we did not have more time to have explore this wonderful city. But when we do return, I would not hesitate to stay again at Hotel des Artistes.
