“Well preserved with a lovely view of Lyon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Like much else in Lyon this lovely Roman "ruin" is free to visit. It is very intact and from the top steps there are brilliant views over Lyon, at times you can see the alps. This doesn't take that much time to visit but is well worth the trip.

“Well preserved Roman Theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

This is a typical roman anfiteatro very well preserved. It is easily accessible on the Metro and still schedules shows and concerts. My wife and I, having seen many such places in Italy, were nevertheless impressed. I wish we could have caught a concert there.

“Good accompanying museum.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

The amphitheatres are spectacular, but extensively reconstructed. There are better ones in France and around the world in my opinion... although not 2 side-by-side.

I dithered about giving this a score of 4, coming close to awarding 3, and if the museum alongside is visited it definitely adds to the visit. Given that it is free to see, I decided that I was feeling generous. Views across Lyon are good from up here. Unless you are fit, I'd recommend using the Funicular to get up here!

“Awesome ruins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Loved seeing the Roman ruins! Some of which are still in use. Very cool. Worth the walk up, or take the funicular.

“Love to watch a concert here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

In their own right they are amazing and spectacular. We visited these while running up the hill and explored the seating, the plans of what they use t look like, the grottos. Inspiring to know man built these along time ago and that the top tiers of both theatres are missing. The largest theatre is a smaller version of the theatre at Ephesus, however i found the acoustics less impressive.

Enjoy this free exhibit while taking in the wonderful view. One of the highlights of our Lyon visit incl the Basilica. Be ware of uneven steps and ramps etc although made out of solid rock.
