“can't miss this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Take the Funiculaire up, but walk down, so you can catch up on some of the other sites.

A walk down brings you into Vieux Lyon, and not very far from the Eglise St Georges.

In the streets of Vieux Lyon you'll find multi-cuisine restaurants at affordable prices, for those who've probably had enough of the typical Lyonnese fare.

As for the Basilica itself its breathtaking. An added attraction are the equally breathtaking ciews of the city from this site

“An impressive work of architecture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

The Cathedral is definitely worth the visit. It can be reached either by walking (although not so easy, given the slope) or funicular railway (1-minute trip). When you jump out, you find it immediately. The exteriors are rather complex and well preserved. When you enter, you can buy a description of the Cathedral in your language for 50 eurocents. The description is helpful. An astronomical clock is on show inside. Of particular value the crypt, where you can find an impressive altair and some multimedia information about the Cathedral. Look carefully at the walls of the crypt.

“Unexpected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

Travelled by funicular to the base of the basilica which arrives a few feet from the main door.
Visited the church on our last day but must say it really was one of the best experiences we had in Lyon

As we arrived mass was coming to an end and the music and ceremony were very moving.

Spend time looking at the detailed mosaics. Some sculptures are also unusual.....especially their themes not usually covered in church art eg last on the left as you exit........Mary requesting that the wine at Canaan be brought in so that Christ might convert it to wine.

Church embellishments are jaw dropping.....so remember to shut it occasionally.

“Must-see in Lyon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013

One of the most breathtaking basilica we have ever visited, one can access Fourvière by the Funiculaire (full of history in itself). Come armed with a camera, not only is the crypt and basilica full of photo opportunities, the panoramic view of Lyon from the top is unbeatable.

“A must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

This one of the best basilicas that my husband and I have visited since we came to Europe. There are so many different facets of it that there is something beautiful and interesting to look at every turn. You also get a wonderful view over Lyon from right outside and it is within easy walking distance to the Roman Theatre ruins and museum.
