“Absolutely amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

This restaurant was the highlight of our trip to Lyon. The tasting menu was fantastic and visually spectacular.

The atmosphere and location are also phenomenal.

“Simply Divine - a must try for open-minded food lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

Being real food lovers, we reserved a spot at Au 14 Fevrier at the start of March for a Saturday lunch spot in April, and it was quite simply one of the best meals of our lifetime. First, the service is excellent: polite, dishes served to both guests at exactly the same time, the servers know the menu perfectly, and food is brought and taken gracefully without interrupting your experience. The atmosphere (the restaurant can only welcome 14 guests at a time) is very nice. Modern, but with a Japanese touch, and there is enough space – as well as a sort of divider – between tables so that all is comfortable.

We started with champagne and yuzu, including an amuse bouche of mousse de volaille wrapped in a very fine chocolate sliver. Also, a paper-thin slice of saucisse in brioche was the perfect mix of salty and sweet. The rest of the dishes (see photos with descriptions to get a better idea) were inventive, fresh, and we loved every one of them. The actual ingredients and mixes (like strawberries and beets and foie gras) would sound weird on a printed menu but taste truly wonderful.

With a glass of champagne to start, 3 glasses of wine to match the dishes, the tasting menu (there is only one) and coffee, the bill came to 235 euros for two. Pricey, but it was really a great experience, and if you love food, it won’t be a meal you will easily forget.

Bon appétit!

Tips
-Reserve for Saturday lunch – same menu, same prices but after 3 hours of non-stop eating you’ll appreciate the time to walk around old Lyon and digest instead of heading home to bed after dinner
-Reserve at least 2 to 3 months in advance for a weekend spot; and call the week before to reconfirm your spot
-As tempting as it is, do not fill up on the delicious bread and save as much space as possible for the main courses
-Try the champagne & yuku drink; original and refreshing
-Only go with a fellow food lover – we were sad to see the couple next to us not eat nearly 50% of the dishes because they did not like fish or seafood or foie gras.

“Fantastic find in Lyon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

This is a terrific address if you like refined food and attentive service. The concept is straightforward: a small upmarket restaurant that accomodates no more than 14 lucky guests, a talented Japanese chef who revisits French standards, a single tasting menu on offer (8 smaller-size dishes for 75 euros), with optional wine pairing (3,4 or 6 glasses).
All this makes for a fantastic evening. The food is amazing, inventive and beautifully presented (we had foie gras, scallops, veal and asparagus amongst other delicacies). Quite a feast.
Whilst not cheap, this is still good value for the quality you get. I personally enjoyed 'Le 14 février' more than Bocuse, and for a fraction of the cost!
The only downside is that you need to book a table at least 2 months in advance, but it is worth the wait. I already look forward to going back.
(On a light note, check out the Japanese toilets, complete with an electronic panel offering front/rear cleaning and drying ;-)
