How far must we have come that fresh salads at pubs in England were consistently better than those at a French restaurant in Lyon!
We visited during August while the standard restaurant stops business and a simpler service is offered called "Sur les toits de Lyon" instead, self-described as "more like a brasserie".
Indeed, the menu was simple enough with four options for each of starters and main courses and a very reasonable price.
Dishes were acceptable, unimpressive with quite standard salads, very small and still reasonably prepared servings of beef filet and chicken breast. The one exception was croutons in the supposedly typical Lyonnaise salad, poorly fried and unpleasantly fat.
Beer and mineral water made the overall dinner price a poor deal. While we did expect high drink surcharges, we find very inappropriate that drink prices are kept out of the menu. Would have happily accepted this with a good meal, we find this helps spoiling such an average meal experience.
Service was kind, with some annoying inconsistencies such as putting water away from the table then failing to show up to fill glasses, and disappearing at the end of dinner without offering to bring the bill.
