“Treasure! Un authentique bouchon!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We sought dinner in a typical bouchon... and we were happily surprised to find "Le Poêlon". Not only was the food perfectly cosy and warming, the flavors were a grand pleasure to our palates. Very good, traditional and charming. Also, the interior design added to our pleasure!

“An excellent 'bouchon'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Lyon is famous for its 'bouchons', traditional restaurants serving regional specialities. There are two sorts: the Bouchons and the members of the Authentique Bouchon Lyonnais group. The latter focus mainly on pork with delicious offal and tripe dishes. The Poelon d'Or is in the first group offering a range of brasserie dishes, with a choice of half a dozen or so 6 entrees, main courses and desserts. You should book or get there early: they were turning people away on a miserable Tuesday evening in early December when I was there. They serve first class brasserie food: salade de jarret de boeuf was well seasoned with capers and cornichons, followed by a delicious Parmentier au canard confit - a simple shepherd's pie with preserved duck. Dessert was panancotta with griottes - tiny little cherries with a sharpness that complemented the panacotta, I had a 50 cl carafe of red from the Rhone and all for less than €45, aperitif, coffee and service compris. You'll find it hard to beat the Poelon d'Or for value for money.

“lovely evening”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

This charming little Lyonnaise bistro is centrally located and quite attractive in a homey sort of way. The restaurant is run by the owner who was friendly and provided us with excellent service. The food really good, starting with a salad Lyonnaise with huge chunks of bacon, and artichoke heart with fois gras. For our entrees we had the beoff in a shallott sauce, and the pike quenelle in a crayfish sauce. These are tyically Lyonnaise and were excellent. Including a bottle of Chassagne Montrachet, a not inexpensive choice of wine, the total bill including service came to 137 euros, equal to about $180, which for two in France we considered pretty good value.

“Cuisine Lyonnaise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We asked our hotel for a traditional French restaurant recommendation and this was their suggestion. The food is probably a bit rich for our usual tastes, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The bistro has a lovely charming art deco style (check out the ceiling) and the staff were lovely and helpful and very friendly - and made an excellent wine recommendation. A fun night.

“One of our Best Meals in France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

This was one of the best meals we had in France. Artichoke heart stuffed with foie gras, quenelles, fabulous desserts. Did the three course set menu. Small so get there early or make rez. Bistro, charming. Night we were there were French, Italians, and Americans all there. My spouse was not happy we did not have time to return another night. Really enjoyed it!
